Complete chloroplast genome sequence of the rose apple, Syzygium jambos (Myrtaceae).

ABSTRACT: Plants in the genus Syzygium have been widely used as traditional medicine, fruit crops, and ornamental trees. In this study, we reported the complete chloroplast genome of Syzygium jambos (L.) Alston which was known as rose apple. The chloroplast genome of this species is 158541 bp in length, including a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRs) (26076 bp) that is divided by a large single copy area (LSC) (88036 bp) and a small single copy area (SSC) (18353 bp). The circular chloroplast genome of S. jambos contains 132 unique genes, composing of 85 protein-coding genes, 39 tRNA genes and 8 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis indicates that S. jambos is clustered with species in genus Syzygium. This complete chloroplast genome of S. jambos will provide a powerful tool to accelerate breeding, biotechnological and phylogenetic study.

Project description:Syzygium samarangense (Blume) Merr. et Perry, 1938, commonly known as wax apple, is a Myrtaceae species that is known for its unique fruit shape, flavorful and colorful fruits, medicinal value and increasing economic relevance. In this study, we reported the complete chloroplast genome sequence of S. samarangense. The complete genome is 159,109 bp in length with a quadripartite structure containing two single copy regions, a Large Single Copy region (LSC, 88,155 bp) and a Small Single Copy region (SSC, 18,796 bp) separated by Inverted Repeat regions (IRs, 26,079 bp). The GC content was 37.0%. It encoded 126 genes, including 81 protein-coding genes, 37 transfer RNA genes, and 8 ribosomal RNA genes. The phylogenetic relationships of 20 species inferred that all Syzygium species formed a single cluster belonging to Syzygieae tribe. Our results offer insights into the evolutionary relationship of S. samarangense within Myrtaceae, indicating a closer relationship between S. samarangense and S. forrestii.

Complete chloroplast genome sequence and phylogenetic analysis of Syzygium malaccense.

Project description:Syzygium malaccense is native to Malaysia. It is sometimes called the malay apple, malay rose-apple, mountain rose-apple, mountain apple, water apple, or French cashew. The tree is very popular in many tropical and subtropical regions for its fruit and traditional medicine. The first complete chloroplast genome of Syzygium malaccense has been reported in this study. The complete chloroplast genome of Syzygium malaccense is 158,954 bp, composed of four regions: a large single-copy region with a size of 87,991 bp, a small single copy region with a size of 18,793 bp, and two inverted repeat regions with a size of 26,085 bp. The GC content is 36.97%. A total of 132 genes were annotated, including 84 encoding proteins, eight encoding rRNA genes, 37 encoding tRNA genes, and three encoding pseudo genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that Syzygium aromaticum, Syzygium cumini, and Syzygium forrestii are closely related to Syzygium malaccense.

Chloroplast genome of tropical and sub-tropical fruit tree Syzygium samarangense (Myrtaceae).

Project description:Syzygium samarangense is an important fruit of Myrtaceae family and commercially planted in tropical areas of the world. Chloroplast genome sequences play a significant role in the development of molecular markers in plant phylogenetic and population genetic studies. In this study, we report the complete chloroplast genome sequence of S. samarangense for the first time (accession number of MH371141). The chloroplast genome is 159,109 bp long and includes 113 genes. Its LSC, SSC and IR regions are 88,533, 18,882, and 25,847 bp long, respectively. Phylogenetic tree analysis exhibited that S. samarangense was clustered with other Myrtaceae species with 100% bootstrap values.

Project description:Syzygium acuminatissimum is a valuable hard wood species in southern China. In this study, we sequenced, assembled and annotated the complete chloroplast genome of S. acuminatissimum. The complete cp genome of S. acuminatissimum was 159,352 bp in length, with a total of 109 unique annotated genes, including 78 protein-coding genes, 27 tRNA genes and 4 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that S. acuminatissimum was closely related to its congener S. aromaticum.

Characterization of the complete chloroplast genome of Syzygium nervosum.

Project description:Syzygium nervosum A.Cunn. ex DC (also named as Cleistocalyx operculatus) is a member of genus Syzygium mainly distributed in China, Vietnam and some other tropical countries and belongs the family of Myrtaceae. Syzygium nervosum is a popular medicinal plant, some species of genus Syzygium have been used in folk medicine. In this study, we sequenced the sample of Syzygium nervosum and determined its complete chloroplast genome. The complete chloroplast genome of Syzygium nervosum is 158,979 bp in length, and contained a large single copy (LSC) with 88,099 bp in length, a small single copy (SSC) with 18,756 bp in length and two inverted repeat (IR) regions of 26,062 bp each. It includes 85 protein coding genes, 8 rRNA and 37 tRNA, and 37% overall GC content. Each of trnK-UUU, rps16, trnG-UCC, atpF, rpoC1, trnL-UAA, trnV-UAC, petB, petD, rpl16, rpl2, ndhB, trnI-GAU, trnA-UGC and ndhA genes contain an intron, the gene clpP and ycf3 contain 2 introns. The phylogenetic position shows that Syzygium nervosum has the closest relationship with Syzygium aromaticum.

Project description:To understand genetic background of Salix gracilistyla Miq., we presented its complete chloroplast genome which is 155,557 bp and has four sub regions: 84,530 bp of large single copy (LSC) and 16,218 bp of small single copy (SSC) regions are separated by 27,405 bp of inverted repeat (IR) regions including 130 genes (84 protein-coding gene, eight rRNAs, and 38 tRNAs). The overall GC content of the chloroplast genome is 36.7% and those in the LSC, SSC, and IR regions are 34.5%, 31.0%, and 41.9%, respectively. Phylogenetic trees show phylogenetic position of S. gracilistyla with low level of inter-species sequence variations.

The complete plastome of Syzygium odoratum (Lour.) DC. 1928 (Myrtaceae).

Project description:Syzygium odoratum (Lour.) DC. 1828 is a deciduous shrub in the family Myrtaceae. This species grows in sparse forests, especially in mountains, valleys, and broad-leaved evergreen forests along streams from 100 to 400 m above sea level. The primary distribution is in southern China (e.g. Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, etc.) and other south Asian countries (e.g. Vietnam). Here, we report and characterize the complete plastome from a cultivar of S. odoratum (Lour.) DC. 1828. The complete plastome is 159,352 bp in length with a typical structure and gene content found in angiosperms, including two inverted repeat regions (IRs) of 26,472 bp, a large single-copy (LSC) region of 87,993 bp, and a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,415 bp. The plastome contains 132 genes, consisting of 84 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. The overall G/C content in the plastome of S. odoratum is 36.9%. By inferring phylogenetic relationships based on the existing data of related taxa, we find that S. odoratum is most closely related to Syzygium acuminatissimum, (Blume) DC. 1828 given the current sampling. The complete plastome sequence of S. odoratum will provide a useful resource for conservation genetics of this species, as well as for phylogenetic studies involving Myrtaceae.

Project description:In this study, the complete chloroplast genome of Tradescantia pallida (Rose) D.R.Hunt was investigated. The whole chloroplast genome sequence is 166,086 bp in length, which consists of a 94,376 bp large single copy (LSC) and an 18,678 bp small single copy (SSC) regions, separated by a pair of 26,518 bp inverted repeat (IR) regions. The chloroplast genome of T. pallida encodes 131 annotated known unique genes including 86 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis based on chloroplast genome sequences demonstrated that T. pallida is most closely related to Belosynapsis ciliate.
