The complete mitochondrial genome of Cynoglossus joyneri (Teleostei: Pleuronectiformes).

ABSTRACT: The complete mitochondrial genome of a commercially important sea fish Cynoglossus joyneri was sequenced and annotated. The 16,941?bp-long genome contained 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNAs, 22 transfer RNAs, and a control region. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that C. joyneri is a sister group with C. sinicus and C. bilineatus, and corroborated the proposed paraphyly of Cynoglossus genus.

Project description:In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of Cynoglossus nanhaiensis was determined. The total length of the mitochondrial genome is 17,130 bp, including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and two noncoding regions. The gene rearrangement of tRNAGln gene and control region (CR) were detected, forming a unique gene order of CR-Ile-Gln-Met. Maximum-likelihood and Bayesian inference method are used to perform the phylogenetic analysis, and the result reveals a close relationship between C. nanhaiensis and Cynoglossus itinus.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome was determined for the Cynoglossus interruptus belonging to the family Cynoglossidae. The length of the complete mitochondrial genome is 17,262 bp, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and a control region. The gene rearrangement related to tRNAGln and a control region gene were found, forming the gene order of CR-Ile-Gln-Met. Phylogenetic analysis using mitochondrial genomes of 12 species showed that C. interruptus formed a well-supported monophyletic group with other Cynoglossus species.

Novel Gene Rearrangement and the Complete Mitochondrial Genome of Cynoglossus monopus: Insights into the Envolution of the Family Cynoglossidae (Pleuronectiformes).

Project description:Cynoglossus monopus, a small benthic fish, belongs to the Cynoglossidae, Pleuronectiformes. It was rarely studied due to its low abundance and cryptical lifestyle. In order to understand the mitochondrial genome and the phylogeny in Cynoglossidae, the complete mitogenome of C. monopus has been sequenced and analyzed for the first time. The total length is 16,425 bp, typically containing 37 genes with novel gene rearrangements. The tRNA-Gln gene is inverted from the light to the heavy strand and translocated from the downstream of tRNA-Ile gene to its upstream. The control region (CR) translocated downstream to the 3'-end of ND1 gene adjoining to inverted to tRNA-Gln and left a 24 bp trace fragment in the original position. The phylogenetic trees were reconstructed by Bayesian inference (BI) and maximum likelihood (ML) methods based on the mitogenomic data of 32 tonguefish species and two outgroups. The results support the idea that Cynoglossidae is a monophyletic group and indicate that C. monopus has the closest phylogenetic relationship with C. puncticeps. By combining fossil records and mitogenome data, the time-calibrated evolutionary tree of families Cynoglossidae and Soleidae was firstly presented, and it was indicated that Cynoglossidae and Soleidae were differentiated from each other during Paleogene, and the evolutionary process of family Cynoglossidae covered the Quaternary, Neogene and Paleogene periods.

Project description:We determined the complete nucleotide sequence of the mitochondrial genome for the summer flounder, Paralichthys dentatus (Pleuronectiformes, Paralichthyidae). This mitochondrial genome, consisting of 17,033 base pairs (bp), encoded genes for 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNAs, 22 transfer RNAs, and a putative D-loop region like those found in other vertebrates, with the gene order identical to that of typical vertebrates. Phylogenetic analysis showed that P. dentatus clustered into one clade with its Paralichthyidae counterparts, Paralichtchys lethostigma and Paralichtchys olivaceus, which showed the close relationship among these species.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Schizothorax davidi (Teleostei: Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae).

Project description:This study provides a mitochondrial complete genome of Schizothorax davidi. The complete genome is 16,576 bp in length with an A + T content of 54.9%, which contains 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, and 2 rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that S. davidi is closely related to Schizothorax lissolabiatus. These results contribute to explore the adaptation strategy of S. davidi on the conditions of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Project description:In this study, the complete mitochondrial genomic sequence of southern flounder Paralichthys lethostigma was determined. The circular mitogenome is 16 843 bp in length and encodes 37 typical animal mitochondrial genes and contains a putative D-loop region. Phylogenetic analysis based on the mitochondrial genomes of southern flounder indicated that P. lethostigma and P. olivaceus are the most closely related species, which strongly supports their close phylogenetic affinity.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Liobagrus styani (Teleostei: Amblycipitidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Liobagrus styani was sequenced by the long and accurate polymerase chain reaction and primer walking sequence method, and each partition was characterized. This genome, with 16,515 bp in length, includes 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2rRNA genes, and 2 non-coding regions. Genes encoding on the genome are similar among all vertebrates. These genes except ND6 and 8 tRNA genes were encoded on the H-strand. Phylogenetic relationship of this species with other congeners was inferred using Bayesian Inference methods based on the genome. Result is contrast to traditional biogeographic explanation for faunal similarity and highlight the need for a further investigation on the formation of allopatric distribution pattern of the genus Liobagrus in East Asia.

Project description:Petrale sole Eopsetta jordani (Pleuronectiformes: Pleuronectidae) is a species of flounder, found in the northeastern Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea of the United States and Canada. The complete mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of E. jordani has 16,483 bp with an overall A + T content of 61% and consists of 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and a non-coding control region. It has incomplete stop codon genes in ND2, COII, ATPase6, COIII, ND3, and ND4. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that E. jordani is not monophyletic with cogeneric Eopsetta grigorjewi and is separated from other species in the same family by a large distance. Present study results provide useful data for further research on genetic diversity and evolution of the Eopsetta and the Pleuronectidae.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Cynoglossus joyneri was determined. The length of the C. joyneri complete mitochondrial DNA sequence is 16,428?bp. The tRNA Gln gene is translocated from the light to the heavy strand (Q inversion), which is accompanied by shuffling of the tRNA Ile gene and long-range translocation of the putative control region downstream to a site between ND1 and the tRNA Gln gene, which is also seen in the closely related Cynoglossus semilaevis. C. joyneri has a closer relationship to Cynoglossus lineolatus and C. semilaevis, but had a distant relationship to Phoxinus percnurus and Sternula albifrons.
