The complete mitochondrial genome of the semiterrestrial crab, Chiromantes neglectum (Eubrachyura: Grapsoidea: Sesarmidae).

ABSTRACT: The complete mitogenome of the semiterrestrial crab Chiromantes neglectum was sequenced. It contained the entire set of 37 genes. The gene order was basically identical to pancrustacean ground pattern, except for thetrnH and trnQ genes. Phylogenetic inferences based on protein-coding genes (PCGs) provide strong evidence that places C. neglectum within an intermingled 'Grapsoidea & Ocypodoidea' clade.

Project description:The complete mitogenome of Chiromantes haematocheir is 15 899 bp in length contains the typical set of 37 genes, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs) (ATP6, ATP8, COI-III, ND1-6, ND4L, and Cyt b), two rRNAs (12S rRNA and 16S rRNA), 22 tRNAs, and a putative CR (D-loop). All PCGs start with an ATG codon except ND1 start with ATT and ND3 start with ATA. TAA is the most frequent stop codon, although COI end with TA-, and COII stop with the single nucleotide T-. The new mtDNA sequence contains 12S rRNA and 16S rRNA of rRNAs, separated with tRNAval. All tRNAs possess the typical clover leaf secondary structure except for tRNASer(AGN) and tRNALeu(CUN), which lacks a dihydroxyuridine (DHU) arm. The CR is 826 bp in length, located between 12S rRNA and tRNAGlx. The phylogenetic trees support Chiromantes haematochir has close relative with Sesarmops sinensis and Sesarmane glectum.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Clistocoeloma sinensis (Brachyura: Grapsoidea): Gene rearrangements and higher-level phylogeny of the Brachyura.

Project description:Deciphering the animal mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) is very important to understand their molecular evolution and phylogenetic relationships. In this study, the complete mitogenome of Clistocoeloma sinensis was determined. The mitogenome of C. sinensis was 15,706 bp long, and its A+T content was 75.7%. The A+T skew of the mitogenome of C. sinensis was slightly negative (-0.020). All the transfer RNA genes had the typical cloverleaf structure, except for the trnS1 gene, which lacked a dihydroxyuridine arm. The two ribosomal RNA genes had 80.2% A+T content. The A+T-rich region spanned 684 bp. The gene order within the complete mitogenome of C. sinensis was identical to the pancrustacean ground pattern except for the translocation of trnH. Additionally, the gene order of trnI-trnQ-trnM in the pancrustacean ground pattern becomes trnQ-trnI-trnM in C. sinensis. Our phylogenetic analysis showed that C. sinensis and Sesarmops sinensis cluster together with high nodal support values, indicating that C. sinensis and S. sinensis have a sister group relationship. The results support that C. sinensis belongs to Grapsoidea, Sesarmidae. Our findings also indicate that Varunidae and Sesarmidae species share close relationships. Thus, mitogenomes are likely to be valuable tools for systematics in other groups of Crustacea.

Project description:In this study, the complete 16,184 bp mitochondrial genome of Cyclograpsus intermedius was determined from a specimen collected in South Korea. It consists of 13 protein-coding, 22 tRNA, 2 rRNA genes, and a non-coding A + T rich region. The base composition of the heavy strand in the mitochondrial genome was 34.7% A, 10.7% G, 18.7% C, and 35.9% T, resulting in a G + C content of 29.4%. A maximum-likelihood phylogenetic tree based on the 13 mitochondrial protein-coding genes showed that C. intermedius clustered together with the Varunidae. These molecular data will be useful for studying the evolutionary relationships among crab species.

Complete mitochondrial genome of xanthid crab Atergatis floridus (Linnaeus, 1767).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome sequenced from the floral egg crab Atergatis floridus (Linnaeus, 1767) and the determination of the position of the species in the reconstructed phylogenetic tree of the infraorder Brachyura using the protein coding mitochondrial genes are presented. Results show the mitochondrial genome length of A. floridus is 16,435 bp with nucleotide distribution as 33.4% A, 20.3% C, 10.5% G and 35.8% T. The structure of the complete mitochondrial genome of the species is the same as with the previous xanthid record. The result of the phylogenetic analysis suggests that A. floridus is the closest species to other Xanthidae species in the brachyuran records. This is the first complete mitochondrial genome record from the genus Atergatis.

Complete mitogenome and phylogenetic analysis of the tropical rocky shore crab Grapsus albolineatus (Lamarck, 1818) (Crustacea: Grapsoidea).

Project description:In this study, the complete mitogenome of Grapsus albolineatus (Lamarck, 1818) (Crustacea: Grapsoidea) was sequenced. The mitogenome of G. albolineatus was a circular molecule with 15,578 bp length. Its nucleotide composition was 26.81% A, 16.37% G, 34.51% T, and 22.31% C. It comprised 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA), and two ribosomal RNA (rRNA). All PCGs were initiated by ATN codons, except for the atp8 and nad1 genes. Ten PCGs used a common stop codon of TAA or TAG, and the other three ended with a truncated stop codon (a single stop nucleotide T). Phylogenetic analysis revealed that G. albolineatus was closely related to species from the genera Pachygrapsus and Metopograpsus.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the mountain crab Indochinamon bhumibol.

Project description:Indochinamon bhumibol has been found as the biggest freshwater crab in Thailand. In this study, we report the first complete sequence of mitochondrial genome from I. bhumibol encoding 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, and 2 ribosomal RNAs. The nucleotide composition of I. bhumibol mitogenome showed a strong AT bias (70.4%) with a low GC content (29.6%). Comparative phylogenetic analysis with 28 crustaceans based on nine conserved genes demonstrated that I. bhumibol was closely related to members of the Potamidae family.

Project description:We report for the first time the complete mitochondrial genome of Sinopotamon xiushuiense, which is found to be 18,460?bp in length, and contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA), and 1 non-coding region known as the D-loop. In addition, the mitogenome has 18 intergenic regions ranging from 1 to 1221?bp in length. The complete mitogenome of S. xiushuiense is the longest among brachyurans reported in GenBank before November 2015, and its AT content is slightly lower than that in Geotholphusa dehaani. The mitogenome data provides a basis for further studies on population genetics and phylogenetics.

Characterization of complete mitochondrial genome of seven-eleven crab Carpilius maculatus (Linnaeus, 1758).

Project description:In this study, we first determined and characterised the complete mitochondrial genome of seven-eleven crab Carpilius maculatus from South China Sea. The C. maculatus mitogenome is 15,761 bp long, and consists of 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), and one control region. The nucleotide composition of C. maculatus mitogenome is significantly biased (A, G, T, and C was 35.9%, 9.8%, 35.5%, and 18.9%, respectively) with A + T contents of 71.3%. Three PCGs used an unusual initiation codon, and four PCGs were terminated with an uncomplete or abnormal stop codon. Six microsatellites were identified in C. maculatus mitogenome sequences. Phylogenetic tree showed that C. maculatus formed monophyletic clade with other Heterotremata species.

The complete mitochondrial genome of P. motuoensis is 17,971 bp in length, including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and 1 control region. In addition, the mitogenome has 19 noncoding regions ranging from 1 to 1396 bp in length. The report of the mitochondrial genome will enrich the species diversity of Yarlung Zangbo River Grand Canyon and provide data support for further research.
