Complete mitochondrial genome of the Endangered species Ellobium chinense (Pulmonata, Ellobiidae) from Korea.

ABSTRACT: The complete mitochondrial genome of Ellobium chinense (Ellobioidea, Ellobiidae), an Endangered species in South Korea, is reported here for the first time. The mitogenome of E. chinense is 13,979 base pairs in total length and includes 13 PCGs, small and large rRNAs, and 21 tRNAs. Twelve genes are encoded on the light-strand and 24 genes on the heavy-strand. Compared to four other ellobiid species, the PCGs of E. chinense have a conserved gene order except for the positions of ND4L and ND4. These data provide useful molecular information for phylogenetic studies concerning ellobiids and related species.

Complete mitochondrial genome and phylogenetic analysis of Callorhinus ursinus: an endangered species from South Korea.

Project description:We present the complete mitochondrial genome and a phylogenetic analysis of Callorhinus ursinus, the northern fur seal, determined using Illumina next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology. The total length of the mitogenome was 17,154 bp, which consisted of 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, 22 tRNA genes, and one control region. The base composition of the entire mitogenome was 33.5% (A), 26.3% (C), 13.9% (G), and 26.3% (T) with an A + T bias of 59.8%. The control region contained two types of tandem repeats. A neighbour-joining (NJ) tree was constructed and comprised two clades with C. ursinus forming a monophyletic group. Data produced in this study will aid exploration of the genetic diversity of endangered C. ursinus and contribute to molecular identification of this species.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Callipogon relictus Semenov (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae): a natural monument and endangered species in Korea.

Project description:In the present study, we report the first complete mitochondrial DNA genome of the genus Callipogon based on C. relictus, a natural monument and endangered species in South Korea. The mitogenome is 15,742 base pairs with 13 protein coding genes (PCGs), two rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, and a 1033?bp long AT-rich region. The overall base composition was 67.3% AT and 32.7 GC. Among 13 PCGs, seven genes (Nad2, Atp8, Atp6, Nad4L, Nad6, Cob, Nad1) harbour the typical stop codon TAA or TAG, whereas remaining five genes terminate with T. Interestingly, Cox3 employs AGA as the termination codon.

Project description:Kichulchoia brevifasciata is an endangered fish that is distributed across the Goheung Peninsula, South Korea. This is the first report of the complete mitochondrial genome of K. brevifasciata, which consists of 16,646 bp with 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes, and a control region (D-loop). The overall base composition of the complete genome is A (29.57%), T (28.08%), G (16.54%), and C (25.80%), with a high A + T content of 57.65%. Phylogenetic analysis showed that K. brevifasciata was most closely related to K. multifasciatas.

Project description:Microphysogobio rapidus is an endangered freshwater fish from Korea with a limited distribution in the Nakdong River. Here, we determined the mitochondrial genome of M. rapidus, which consisted of 16,603 bp with 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNAs, 22 transfer RNA genes, and a control region (D-loop). The overall base composition of the complete genome was 29.96% A, 26.06% T, 17.24% G, and 26.74% C, with high A + T content of 56.02%.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Achatinella mustelina (Gastropoda: Pulmonata: Stylommatophora).

Project description:In this study, we report the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Achatinella mustelina, an endangered Hawaiian tree snail. The mitogenome is 16 323?bp in length and has a base composition of A (34.7%), T (42.6%), C (12.7%) and G (10.0%). Similar to other Pulmonates, it contains 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes and 22 tRNA genes. To our knowledge, this is the first mitochondrial genome sequenced within the Achatinelloidea superfamily, which contains a high number of endangered species. As such, this mitogenome will be useful in conservation genetics studies.

Characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome of the endangered species Schizothorax integrilabiatus.

Project description:Schizothorax integrilabiatus is an endangered fish species found in the Buqun Lake of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. In this study, we determined the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the S. integrilabiatus. The circular mitochondrial genome was 16,621 bp in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes and a control region (D-loop). The overall base composition is A 30.1%, C 26.9%, G 17.4%, and T 25.6%, with a high A + T content (55.7%). Further, phylogenetic analysis suggested that S. integrilabiatus is closely related to species of S. plagiostomus, and then clustered into a clade with other Schizothoracinae species. This work provides additional molecular information for studying S. integrilabiatus conservation genetics and evolutionary relationships.

The complete chloroplast genome of Aconitum austrokoreense Koidz. (Ranunculaceae), an endangered endemic species in Korea.

Project description:We determined the complete chloroplast genome sequences of Aconitum austrokoreense Koidz., an endangered endemic species in Korea. The chloroplast DNA is 155,682?bp in length and encodes 37 tRNAs, 8 rRNAs, and 86 protein-coding genes. Phylogenetic analysis and sequence comparison of protein-coding genes with those in other Ranunculaceae chloroplast DNAs showed that the chloroplast genome of A. austrokoreense is closely related to that of A. chiisanense and large sequence variations identified in rps16, matK, and rpl20 are specific to these two species.

Similar to other pulmonates, it contains 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 transfer RNA genes. The gene order is the same as its sister species, A. mustelina. To our knowledge, this is the second mitochondrial genome sequenced within the superfamily Achatinelloidea, and will aid in the examination of the genus Achatinella, part of a spectacular radiation in the Hawaiian Islands.

The complete mitochondrial genome of an endangered triton snail Charonia lampas (Littorinimorpha: Charoniidae) from South Korea.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of an endangered triton snail Charonia lampas (Littorinimorpha: Charoniidae) from South Korea was determined with the size of 15,330 bp, which contained 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, and two rRNAs. The overall features of the mitochondrial genome are similar to those of typical gastropod mitochondrial genomes, except for the absence of a control region (CR): a conserved gene order, a high A + T content (67.45% for C. lampas), preference for AT-rich codons, etc. It is the second mitochondrial genome reported from this species after Cho et al. (2017), and there is ca. 98% sequence similarity between those of the species. According to the maximum-likelihood tree, C. lampas placed within the monophyletic Tonnoidea, forming a monoclade with Cypraeoidea and Stromboidea within Littorinimorpha. Interestingly, we confirmed that Vermetoidea is placed at the basal position of the monophyletic Littorinimorpha.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Gongshan muntjac (Muntiacus gongshanensis), a Critically Endangered deer species.

Project description:The first complete mitochondrial genome of the Gongshan muntjac (Muntiacus gongshanensis) was determined and annotated (GenBank accession nos. MK882935). The 16,356?bp circular genome contained 13 protein-coding genes (PGCs), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and 1 control region (D-loop). Phylogenetic analysis revealed that Gongshan muntjac is most closely related to Black muntjac (Muntiacus crinifrons), with Fea's muntjac (Muntiacus feae) as their sister species. These data will be useful for further studies on the genetic diversity and molecular phylogenetic relationship of the genus Muntiacus.
