The Wood-Ljungdahl pathway allows for autotrophic bacterial growth on carbon dioxide, with the last step in acetyl-CoA synthesis catalyzed by the bifunctional enzyme carbon monoxide dehydrogenase/acetyl-CoA synthase (CODH/ACS).
