Rearranged during transfection (RET), a receptor tyrosine kinase, is activated by glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor family ligands. Chromosomal rearrangement or point mutations in <i>RET</i> are observed in patients with papillary thyroid and medullary thyroid carcinomas.
