Blowfly species of the family Calliphoridae can be used in forensic investigations to estimate the minimum post-mortem interval (PMI<sub>min</sub>). <i>Lucilia caesar</i> and <i>Lucilia illustris</i> (Diptera: Calliphoridae) are closely related and phenotypically similar, making reliable identification difficult.
