The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Sibiraea angustata, a traditional Chinese medicine in Sichuan Province, China.

ABSTRACT: The complete chloroplast genome of Sibiraea angustata was assembled and subjected to phylogenetic analysis. The chloroplast genome of S. angustata was 155,869 bp in length, containing a large single-copy region (84,343 bp), a small single-copy region (18,820 bp), and two inverted repeat regions (26,353 bp). The overall GC content of S. angustata chloroplast genome was 36.80%. The chloroplast genome of S. angustata contained 127 unique genes, including 83 protein-coding genes, 36 tRNA genes and eight rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that S. angustata was related to Malus ioensis, Malus florentina and Malus trilobata.

The first complete chloroplast genome of Uncaria macrophylla was sequenced and assembled in this study. The genome is 155,138 bp in length and contained 129 encoded genes in total, including 79 protein-coding genes, eight ribosomal RNA genes, and 37 transfer RNA genes. The phylogenomic analysis showed that U. macrophylla was closely related to Uncaria rhynchophylla according to the current sampling extent.

Complete chloroplast genome sequence of Pueraria thomsonii, an important traditional Chinese medicine plant.

Project description:Pueraria thomsonii is a leguminous plant with high root yield and starch content. It is also a medicinal material in the Chinese pharmacopeia. However, the raw materials of P. thomsonii are often confused with some non-medicinal Pueraria plants. To enrich the genetic resources of P. thomsonii and guide its molecular identification, the complete chloroplast genome was sequenced and reported. The total genome of P. thomsonii is 153,434?bp in length. consisting of two inverted repeat regions (IRS, 25,640?bp each) separated by a large single-copy (LSC, 84,155?bp) and a small single-copy region (SSC, 17,999?bp). The overall GC content is 35.41%. It contains 130 genes, including 85 protein coding genes, 8 rRNA genes and 37 tRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that P. thomsonii could be distinguished from other plants and closely related to the legume Pachyrhizus erosus. This study enriches the genetic information of P. thomsonii and contributes to the screening of excellent germplasm.

Project description:Tribulus terrestris is an important traditional medicine in China, which is widely distributed in north China. Here, the chloroplast genome sequences were detected. The chloroplast genome of T. terrestris is circular-mapping molecule of 158,184?bp in size, which consisted of a pair of inverted repeat regions of 25,842?bp each, a large single copy region of 88,878?bp, and a small single copy region of 17,622?bp. A total of 129 genes were annotated, including 37 tRNA, 8 rRNA, and 84 protein-coding genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed T. terrestris clustered with Krameria lanceolate and Krameria bicolor.

Project description:Achyranthes bidentata (Amarathaceae) has been commonly used as a traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of osteoporosis and bone nonunion. Here, the complete chloroplast genome of A. bidentata was assembled and characterized. The cp genome is 151,451 bp in length, composed of a pair of 25,150 bp inverted repeat (IR) regions separated by a large single-copy (LSC) region of 83,899 bp and a small single-copy (SSC) region of 17,252 bp. The whole cp genome of A. bidentata contains 130 genes(85 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNAs and eight rRNAs) and the overall GC content is 36.5%. Phylogenetic analysis based on the cp genome data showed that A. bidentata was close to Cyathula capitata.

Project description:Mentha canadensis is a well-known resource of traditional Chinese herbal medicine, belonging to the Mentha of the Labiatae family. In this study, the whole chloroplast genome of the M. canadensis chloroplast genome was sequenced, assembled and annotated, which contains 134 unique genes, including 89 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes and 8 rRNA genes. A maximum likelihood phylogenetic tree based on 11 complete chloroplast genomes revealed that M. canadensis is closely related to M. longifolia and M. spicata. The chloroplast genome could be used for variety identification, genetic engineering and effective protection of germplasm resources.

Project description:Platanus × hispanica is a tree species with high ornamental value, which complete chloroplast(cp) genome was sequenced, assembled and annotated. The chloroplast genome of P. hispanica was 161,717 bp in length, including a large single copy (LSC) region of 92,106, a small single copy (SSC) region of 19,449 bp, and two inverted repeat (IR) regions of 25,081 bp. The GC contents of LSC, SSC, IR, and whole genome are 36.2, 33.0, 43.4, and 38.0%, respectively. There are 131 genes annotated, including 86 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis revealed that P. hispanica was most related to Platanus occidentalis as a sister group with 100% bootstrap support. The complete chloroplast genome sequences of P. hispanica will provide valuable genomic information to further illuminate phylogenetic classification of Platanus genus.

Project description:Bulbophyllum disciflorum is one of Orchidaceae species, which has important ornamental and economic value. Here, we reported the first chloroplast genome sequence of Bulbophyllum. The genome of B. disciflorum is 148,554 bp in length, including a large single-copy (LSC) of 79,001 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) of 16,797 bp, and a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRa and IRb) of 26,378bp. It contains 108 unique genes consisting of 74 protein-coding genes, 30 tRNA genes, and 4 rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis revealed that Bulbophyllum is sister to the genus of Dendrobium.

Here we sequenced the complete plastid genome of C. septentrionale to contribute to its phylogenetics and bioinformatics. The chloroplast genome of C. septentrionale is 152,729 bp in length and includes a large single copy (LSC) region of 93,639 bp, a small single copy (SSC) region of 18,858 bp, and two inverted repeat (IR) regions of 20,114 bp. The GC content of LSC, SSC, IR and the whole genome is 37.9%, 33.8%, 44.4%, and 39.1%, respectively. There are 128 genes, including 84 protein-coding, 36 tRNA, and eight rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis resolved C. septentrionale in a sister position to C. glanduliferum. The complete chloroplast genome sequence of C. septentrionale provides valuable genomic information for future systematic studies on Cinnamomum.
