The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Ventilago leiocarpa Benth.

ABSTRACT: Ventilago leiocarpa Benth. is an important medicinal and edible plant. The complete chloroplast genome of V. leiocarpa Benth. was assembled and annotated. In this study, the chloroplast genome of V. leiocarpa Benth. was a circular form of 161,880 bp in length. The genome presented a typical quadripartite structure consisting of a pair of inverted repeats (IRa and IRb) of 26,357 bp separated by a large single copy (LSC) region of 90,056 bp and a small single copy (SSC) region of 19,129 bp. The genome contained a set of 127 genes, including 82 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed that V. leiocarpa Benth. closely related to Rhamnus taquetii, which beyond to Rhamnaceae.

Project description:Pithecellobium clypearia (Jack) Benth. 1844 belongs to the genus Pithecellobium in the family Fabaceae. The complete chloroplast genome of P. clypearia was sequenced and analyzed by Illumina sequencing in this study. The full length of the complete chloroplast genome is 176,770 bp, containing a pair of inverted repeat regions of 39,693 bp (IRa and IRb) separated by a large single-copy (LSC) region of 92,500 bp and a small single-copy (SSC) region of 4,884 bp. The P. clypearia chloroplast genome encodes 137 genes, comprising 92 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis based on complete chloroplast genomes revealed that P. clypearia is closely related to Archidendron lucyi and Pithecellobium flexicaule. This study provides useful resources for further study and development of this species.

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Crassocephalum crepidioides (Benth.) S. Moore. (Asteraceae).

Project description:The complete chloroplast (cp) genome of Crassocephalum crepidioides was sequenced and assembled for the first time. In this study, the total genome size is 150,596 bp in length and demonstrates a typical quadripartite structure containing a large single copy (LSC, 82,575 bp) and a small single copy (SSC, 18,293 bp), separated by a pair of inverted repeats (IRa, IRb) of 24,864 bp. The G + C content of this cp genome was 37.21%. Gene annotation analysis identified 130 genes including 85 protein-coding genes, 37 transfer RNA, and 8 ribosomal RNA genes. The maximum-likelihood phylogenetic analysis result showed that C. crepidioides was closely related to Nannoglottis ravida in the phylogenetic relationship.

Complete chloroplast genome sequence and phylogenetic analysis of Ilex viridis Champ. ex Benth.

Project description:Ilex viridis Champ. ex Benth. is domestic to southern China. In the present work, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of Ilex viridis was assembled and characterized by high-throughput sequencing analyses. The chloroplast genome was 157,701 bp in length, consisting of large single-copy (LSC) and small single-copy (SSC) regions of 87,177 bp and 18,394 bp, respectively, which were separated by a pair of 26,065 bp inverted repeat (IR) regions. The genome was predicted to contain 134 genes, including 89 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The overall GC content of the genome is 37.7%. The phylogenetic tree reconstructed using 13 chloroplast genomes reveals that I. viridis is mostly related to Ilex szechwanensis.

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Thunbergia erecta (Benth.) T. Anders. (Acanthaceae).

Project description:Thunbergia erecta (Benth.) T. Anders. is an upright shrub species of Acanthaceae with great ecological and economical values. In this paper, we explored the complete chloroplast genome sequence of T. erecta using next generation sequencing to provide genomic resources that could help to promote its conservation. The genome of T. erecta is 152,202 bp in length, containing a large single-copy region of 84,232 bp, and a small single-copy region of 17,656 bp. It encodes a total of 131 genes, including 8 rRNA genes, 37 tRNA genes, 84 protein-coding genes and 2 pseudo genes. The GC content of T. erecta genome is 38.47%. The phylogenetic analysis suggests that it was closely related to Avicennia marina in Acanthaceae. In addition, we found that T. erecta appeared late clade in the whole family while outgroups plants appeared even later. T. erecta is morphologically similar to other plants in Acanthaceae, but is genetically closed to the outgroup species.

The chloroplast genome of S. tenuifolia is a circular form of 151,254 bp in length, with an average GC content of 37.85%. The genome contains a set of 132 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis based on complete chloroplast genome sequences indicates that S. tenuifolia has a close relationship with Dracocephalum palmatum. This study provides a molecular basis for the classification of S. tenuifolia.

The complete chloroplast genome of M. pteleifolia was 159,014 bp in size, including a pair of inverted repeat regions (IR, 27,640 bp), a large single copy region (LSC, 85,124 bp), and a small single copy region (SSC, 18,610 bp). The GC content of the chloroplast genome was 38.3%. A total of 133 genes were annotated, including 88 protein-coding genes, 8 rRNA genes, and 37 tRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that M. pteleifolia clusters together with species of Toddalia, Zanthoxylum, Tetradium, Phellodendron, and Casimiroa.

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Lemna turionifera (Araceae).

Project description:Lemna turionifera is native to North America and northern Asia, with significant potential for industrial wastewater remediation. The complete nucleotide sequence of the L. turionifera chloroplast genome (cpDNA) was determined. The cpDNA is a circular molecule of 166,606 bp and containing a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) measuting 31,663 bp each. These IRs are flanked by a small single-copy region of 13,542 bp and a large single-copy region of 89,738 bp. The chloroplast genome of L. turionifera consisted of 112 unique genes, including 78 protein-encoding genes, 30 tRNA genes, and four rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis utilizing cpDNA provided a well-supported resolution of the relationships among subfamilies within the Araceae family. Our findings indicated a close relationship between L. turionifera and a clade consisting of L. minor, L. japonica, and L. gibba. The availability of the complete chloroplast genome sequence of L. turionifera presents valuable data for future phylogenetic investigations within the Lemnaceae family.

Project description:The first complete chloroplast genome of Hedychium coronarium (Zingiberaceae) was reported in this study. The H. coronarium chloroplast genome was 163,949 bp in length and comprised a pair of inverted repeat (IR) regions of 29,780 bp each, a large single-copy (LSC) region of 88,581 bp and a small single-copy (SSC) region of 15,808 bp. It encoded 141 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes (79 PCG species), 46 tRNA genes (28 tRNA species), and eight rRNA genes (four rRNA species). The nucleotide composition was asymmetric (31.68% A, 18.35% C, 17.74% G, 32.23% T) with an overall AT content of 63.92%. Phylogenetic analysis showed that H. coronarium was classified into a monophyletic group within the genus Hedychium in family Zingiberaceae.

The genome consisted of 129 genes, including 84 protein-codon genes (PCGs), 37 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. The GC content of the whole chloroplast genome is 36.7%. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that P. mahaleb was the closest related to P. cerasoides and P. maximowiczii.

Project description:Kosteletzkya pentacarpos is a promising plant being developed as a salt-tolerant biofuel crop that also the ability to fix heavy metals. Here, high-throughput sequencing technology was used to sequence and assemble the chloroplast genome of K. pentacarpos. The full length of the chloroplast genome is 161,777 bp, comprising a large single-copy region of 90,019 bp, a small single-copy region of 18,978 bp, and a pair of inverted repeats of 26,390 bp. A total of 113 genes were annotated, including 79 protein-coding, 30 transfer RNA, and 4 ribosomal RNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis based on whole chloroplast genome sequences showed that K. pentacarpos has a close relationship with Abelmoschus in Malvaceae. This study increases the available genomic information on K. pentacarpos, and provides a basis for the rational exploitation and utilization of germplasm resources.
