Characterization and phylogenetic analysis of the complete plastome of Maclura tricuspidata (Moraceae).

ABSTRACT: The complete chloroplast genome (plastome) of Maclura tricuspidate Carriere, a thorny and deciduous tree, is determined. The plastome is 161,348 bp in length, consisting of a 89,364 bp large single-copy region, a 20,246 bp small single-copy region, and two 25,869 bp inverted repeat regions. The GC content of this plastome is 36.1%. A total of 112 unique genes are annotated for the plastome of M. tricuspidata, containing 78 protein coding genes (PCGs), 30 tRNAs, and four rRNAs. Phylogenetic analysis shows that M. tricuspidata is sister to the clade comprising Dorstenieae, Castilleae, and Ficeae.

Project description:Veronica undulata is a perennial herb, and the complete chloroplast genome (plastome) of V. undulata was determined in this study. The results showed that the plastome size of V. undulata was 151,178 bp, including a large single-copy region (68,533 bp), a small single-copy region (21,403 bp), and two inverted repeat regions (25,566 bp). The total GC content of the plastome was 38.1%. We annotated 115 unique genes in the plastome, including 81 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 30 tRNAs, and four rRNAs. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the species of V. undulata and Veronica clustered together.

Enantiomeric Isoflavones with neuroprotective activities from the Fruits of Maclura tricuspidata.

Project description:Seven pairs of enantiomeric isoflavones (1a/1b-7a/7b) were obtained from the ethyl acetate extract of the fruits of Maclura tricuspidata (syn. Cudrania tricuspidata), and successfully separated by chiral high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC). The structures and absolute configurations of the enantiomeric isoflavones were established on the basic of comprehensive spectroscopic analyses and quantum chemical calculation methods. Compounds 1, 1a, and 1b exhibited neuroprotective activities against oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (ODG/R)-induced SH-SY5Y cells death with EC50 values of 5.5 µM, 4.0 µM, and 10.0 µM, respectively. Furthermore, 1, 1a, and 1b inhibited OGD/R-induced reactive oxygen species generation in SH-5Y5Y cells with IC50 values of 6.9 µM, 4.5 µM, and 9.5 µM, respectively.

The complete plastome of Saxifraga giraldiana Engler and its phylogenetic analysis.

Project description:Saxifraga giraldiana Engler is a common subalpine and alpine plant belonging to Saxifragaceae. However, the genetic diversity of this species has remained to be explored. In this study, we have assembled and characterized the complete chloroplast genome of S. giraldiana, filling this knowledge gap and uncovering its genetic composition. The chloroplast genome is 147,267 bp long and contains 131 genes, including 85 protein-coding genes, 38 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. Furthermore, we have performed a phylogenetic analysis of 19 representative species within Saxifraga. As a result, we have found that S. giraldiana, together with S. implicans and S. stellariifolia, forms a monophyletic group. These findings have implications for the conservation and utilization of S. giraldiana.

The GC content of this plastome was 38.3%. A total of 112 genes were annotated for the plastome of A. japonicus, containing 78 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 30 tRNAs, and 4 rRNAs. Phylogenetic analysis showed that A. japonicus was sister to Alopecurus aequalis.

Project description:Ipomoea aquatica, commonly known as water spinach, is an edible annual vegetable in the genus Ipomoea,. In this study, the complete plastome of Ipomoea aquatica was determined using the Illumina sequencing platform. The plastome size was 162,663 bp. It consists of four regions, including a large single-copy region (88,166 bp), a small single-copy region (12,069 bp), and a pair of inverted repeat regions (31,214 bp). This plastome encodes 114 unique genes, including 80 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 30 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), and 4 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs). The GC content was 39.1%. Phylogenomic analysis based on 19 complete plastomes revealed that I. aquatica was closely related to I. diamantinensis.

The genome size was 150,710 bp and consists of a large single-copy (LSC: 83,892 bp) region, a small single-copy (SSC: 18,100 bp) region, and two inverted repeats (IRs: 24,359 bp) regions. GC content was 36.6%. A total of 113 genes were identified, including 79 protein-coding genes, four rRNA genes, and 30 tRNA genes. Twenty chloroplast genomes from Amaranthaceae were selected to reconstruct phylogenetic tree and the result supported that A. retroflexus was sister to A. hypochondriacus and A. caudatus.

It encodes a total of 132 genes, including 87 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA, and 8 rRNA. The phylogeny robustly supports that G. chinensis is sister to the clade including Piper kadsura, Piper cenocladum, Saruma henryi, Asarum sieboldii.
