Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) has been identified to accelerate bone formation. However, detailed mechanism has not been fully explained. In this study, we found that ESWT promoted osteoblast formation <i>in vitro</i>. Local ESW treatment of femur increased bone formation <i>in vivo</i>.
