Somatic cells age and die, but the germ-cell lineage is immortal. In <i>Caenorhabditis elegans</i>, germline immortality involves proteostasis renewal at the beginning of each new generation, when oocyte maturation signals from sperm trigger the clearance of carbonylated proteins and protein aggregates.
