Project description:BackgroundThe Parental-Caregivers Perceptions Questionnaire (P-CPQ) is a measure of parental/caregivers' perceptions of the impact of children's oral health on quality of life. The aim of the study was evaluate the psychometric properties of the French version of the P-CPQ.MethodThe original P-CPQ was developed in English language and has 31 items divided into four sub-scales. This cross-sectional study used the translation-back translation method. The translated questionnaire was pretested on 14 parents-caregivers to obtain the final French version. The psychometric properties were tested on 142 parents/caregivers of three clinical groups of children from 8 to 10 years old without dental/facial anomalies (presumed healthy), with oral-facial clefts and with oral-dental anomalies linked to a rare disease other than cleft, approached in the waiting room of the Centre of the Hospital Rothschild in Paris, France, where the children attended treatment. Internal consistency was assessed by Cronbach's alpha and test-retest reliability by Intra-class Correlation Coefficient (ICC). Construct validity was measured by correlations between the total scores and the global ratings of oral health and overall wellbeing, and tested using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and the factorial structure was evaluated by the partial confirmatory factor analysis (PCFA). Discriminant validity was determined using Kruskall-Wallis test.ResultsThe mean (standard deviation) P-CPQ score was 18.73(18.79). Internal consistency was confirmed by a Cronbach alpha of 0.85. The test-retest reliability revealed that the responses to items were satisfactorily stable (ICC = 0.88). Construct validity was demonstrated by significant correlation coefficients between the total scale and the global ratings (r = 0.54 and 0.46; p < 0.001). Factor analysis with Principal Component Analysis extracted seven factors explaining 65.23% cumulative variance. Goodness-of-fit indices for partial confirmatory factor analysis were satisfactory for the 7-factors model of the French-PCPQ version. There were statistically significant differences between clinical groups regarding the total scale, thus demonstrating discriminant validity (p < 0.001).ConclusionThis French P-CPQ version showed reliability and validity comparable to the previous versions. However, the cross-cultural structure of the subscales should be further evaluated.

Project description:PurposeThe aims of this cross-sectional study were to explore reliability and validity of the Norwegian version of the Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement System®-Profile 57 (PROMIS-57) questionnaire in a general population sample, n = 408, and to examine Item Response properties and factor structure.MethodsReliability measures were obtained from factor analysis and item response theory (IRT) methods. Correlations between PROMIS-57 and RAND-36-item health survey (RAND36) were examined for concurrent and discriminant validity. Factor structure and IRT assumptions were examined with factor analysis methods. IRT Item and model fit and graphic plots were inspected, and differential item functioning (DIF) for language, age, gender, and education level were examined.ResultsPROMIS-57 demonstrated excellent reliability and satisfactory concurrent and discriminant validity. Factor structure of seven domains was supported. IRT assumptions were met for unidimensionality, local independence, monotonicity, and invariance with no DIF of consequence for language or age groups. Estimated common variance (ECV) per domain and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) model fit supported unidimensionality for all seven domains. The GRM IRT Model demonstrates acceptable model fit.ConclusionsThe psychometric properties and factor structure of Norwegian PROMIS-57 were satisfactory. Hence, the 57-item questionnaire along with PROMIS-29, and the corresponding 8 and 4 item short forms for physical function, anxiety, depression, fatigue, sleep disturbance, social participation ability and pain interference, are considered suitable for use in research and clinical care in Norwegian populations. Further studies on longitudinal reliability and sensitivity in patient populations and for Norwegian item calibration and/or reference scores are needed.

Project description:ObjectiveThe Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS), a 30-item self-assessment questionnaire, has been developed to measure perceived emotional intelligence (EI) level in 3 dimensions: Attention, Clarity and Repair. This study aimed to explore the psychometric properties of the French version of this instrument.MethodThe instrument factor structure, normality, internal consistency, stability and concurrent validity were assessed in a sample of 824 young adults (456 female). Besides TMMS, participants completed self-assessment questionnaires for affectivity (Shortened Beck Depression Inventory, State and Trait Anxiety Inventory, Positive and Negative emotion scale), alexithymia (Bermond-Vorst Alexithymia Questionnaire-B) and interpersonal functioning (Empathy Quotient). Discriminant validity was tested in 64 female patients with anorexia nervosa, identified in literature as having difficulties with introspection, expression and emotional regulation.ResultsConfirmatory factor analysis results replicate the 3-factor structure. Internal consistency and reliability indices are adequate. Direction and degree of correlation coefficients between TMMS dimensions and other questionnaires support the instrument concurrent validity. TMMS allows to highlight differences in perceived EI levels between men and women (Attention: p < 0.001 ; Clarity: p < 0.05) as well as between patients with anorexia nervosa and control subjects (p < 0.001 for all 3 dimensions).ConclusionThis first validation study shows satisfying psychometric properties for TMMS French version.

Project description:Imagery can be defined as the ability to represent and rehearse in the mind behaviors related to a given situation. The Sport Imagery Questionnaire was developed to measure the frequency of imagery use among athletes. The present study aimed to adapt and to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of this instrument. Study 1 appraised content validity using five sport scientists as judges to quantify the quality of the adaptation for each item; then the Content Validity Coefficient was calculated. Study 2 had 260 athletes from six types of sport answer the Brazilian questionnaire. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to test factorial validity, Cronbach's alpha was calculated to assess reliability, and comparisons between groups were used as criterion validity. Study 1 results showed good quality of the adaptation according to the judges. Study 2 showed a 5-factor latent structure which corroborates with the literature. Reliability of the scale was high (??=?.91), whereas separately subscales ranged between Motivational General: Arousal (??=?.87) and Motivational Specific (??=?.94). Regarding group differences, sex showed no significant difference between men and women (p?=?.55; d?=?.09) and neither did levels of practice between amateur, semi-professionals and professional athletes (p?=?.71; f?=?.07). Types of sports revealed moderate effect size and significantly less imagery practice among synchronized swimming, football and beach volleyball athletes, whereas mixed martial artists showed higher frequency of imagery (p?<?.05; f?=?.23). Factor structure, reliability and validity of mixed groups are evidence of a successful cross-cultural adaptation of the Sport Imagery Questionnaire to Brazil.

Project description:BackgroundPatient safety culture involves leader and staff interaction, routines, attitudes, practices and awareness that influence risks of adverse events in patient care. The Safety Attitudes Questionnaire (SAQ) is an instrument to measure safety attitudes among health care providers. The instrument aims to identify possible weaknesses in clinical settings and motivate quality improvement interventions leading to reductions in medical errors. The Ambulatory Version of the SAQ (SAQ-A) was developed to measure safety climate in the primary care setting. The original version of the SAQ includes six major patient safety factors: Teamwork climate, Safety climate, Job satisfaction, Perceptions of management, Working conditions, and Stress recognition. Patients in nursing homes are particularly vulnerable to adverse events. We present the psychometric properties of the Norwegian translation of the SAQ-A for the nursing home setting.MethodsThe study was conducted in five nursing homes in Tønsberg, Norway, in February 2016. A total of 463 employees working more than 20% received a paper version of the translated SAQ-A adapted to the Norwegian nursing home setting and responded anonymously. Filled-in questionnaires were scanned and transferred to an SPSS file. SPSS was used to estimate Cronbach alphas, corrected item-total correlations, item-to-own and item-to-other correlations, and item-descriptive statistics. The confirmatory factor analysis was done by AMOS.ResultsOf the 463 health care providers, 288 (62.2%) responded to the questionnaire. The confirmatory factor analysis showed that the total model of the six factors Teamwork climate, Safety climate, Job satisfaction, Perceptions of management, Working conditions, and Stress recognition had acceptable goodness-of-fit values in the nursing home setting.ConclusionsThe results of our study indicate that the Norwegian translated version of the SAQ-A, with the confirmed six factor model, is an appropriate tool for measuring patient safety climate in the nursing home setting. Future research should study whether there is an association between patient safety climate in nursing homes and occurrence of adverse events among the patients.

Project description:Prodromal Questionnaire (PQ) and Structured Interview for Prodromal Syndromes (SIPS) have been used as a two-stage process for identifying subjects at clinical high risk (CHR) of psychosis. The Prodromal Questionnaire-Brief version (PQ-B) contains 21 items derived from the PQ. The present study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of PQ-B in a Chinese help-seeking outpatient sample and to explore which items can better predict CHR diagnosis by SIPS and future transition to psychosis. In our preliminary epidemiological study, 1461 patients from a pool of 2101 individuals (15-45 years of age) completed the two-stage process. In the present study, 239 (20%) people were randomly selected among the sample who met the initial PQ-B screening criteria but had no positive diagnosis on SIPS, as well as 72 individuals with negative results on both PQ-B and SIPS, 89 prodromal and 105 psychotic subjects, yielding a total of 505 participants. The internal consistency coefficient for the PQ-B was good, with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.897. The concordant validity of PQ-B with SIPS dichotomized diagnosis of prodrome/psychosis versus no psychosis was 0.54. To ensure 80% or a higher sensitivity and a certain specificity, 7 and 24 were respectively set as the cutoff points for the PQ-B total score and distress score for Chinese help-seeking outpatients. A logistic regression model based on six PQ-B items could allow predicting the psychotic diagnosis on SIPS, with an accuracy of 65.8%. Prodromal individuals who scored higher on the 12th item of PQ-B (Do you worry at times that something may be wrong with your mind?) were less likely to convert to psychosis. PQ-B is a useful instrument for screening CHR subjects, but the cutoff score may be higher than that recommended by the author scores for help-seeking individuals in outpatient clinics. Some specific PQ-B items may have significant predictive power on dichotomized SIPS diagnoses and deserve special attention from researchers in future studies.

Project description:BACKGROUND:Cough is one of the most common symptoms in general and pulmonary medicine with profound negative impact on health-related quality of life (HRQL). The Leicester Cough Questionnaire (LCQ) is a validated HRQL questionnaire, yet a validated German version of the LCQ is not available and it has never been tested in a cohort with sarcoidosis. OBJECTIVES:To translate the LCQ into German and determine its psychometric properties. METHODS:The LCQ was translated in a forward-backward approach. Structured interviews in sarcoidosis patients were performed. Subsequently, sarcoidosis patients were asked to answer the German LCQ and comparative questionnaires. Distribution properties, item difficulty, concurrent validity, Rasch model fit and internal consistency of the German LCQ were determined. RESULTS:200 patients with sarcoidosis were included. We provide evidence for reliability, unidimensionality and internal consistency. However, only a moderate correlation with general and respiratory-specific HRQL questionnaires, no Rasch model fit could be shown. Skewed responses caused by floor effects were detected. CONCLUSION:We demonstrate that the German LCQ is valid and reliable and its psychometric properties fulfil the standards required for its use in clinical settings as well as in interventional trials.

Project description:BACKGROUND:Assessing quality of life (QOL) in elderly needs specific instruments. The Older People's Quality of Life Questionnaire (OPQOL-35) is one of the common tools that used for measuring quality of life in elderly populations. The questionnaires contains 35 items tapping into eight domains including life overall, health, social relationships and participation, independence, control over life and freedom, home and neighborhood, psychological and emotional well-being, financial circumstances, culture and religion. This study aimed to translate and validate the OPQOL-35 in Iran. METHODS:Forward-backward procedure was applied to translate the original questionnaire from English into Persian. Then following qualitative face and content validity, a sample of elderly people completed the questionnaire. In order to evaluate the construct validity, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses was performed. Subsequently, convergent and divergent validity of the factors were evaluated. Reliability was evaluated by performing internal consistency analysis and Intraclass Correlation Coefficients (ICC). RESULTS:In all 500 older people completed the questionnaire. The mean age of participant was 68.92 (SD?=?6.97) years, and mostly were males (66.6%). The result of exploratory factor analysis showed 8 factors with Eigen values of greater than one, which explained 67.4% of the variance observed. Confirmatory factor analysis showed acceptable fit indexes for the data [Comparative Fit Index (CFI)?=?0.92, Minimum Discrepancy Function by Degrees of Freedom divided (CMIN/DF)?=?2.832, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA)?=?0.067]. The convergent and divergent validity did not support three latent factors (Life overall, Independence, control over life, freedom and Psychological and emotional well-being). Convergent and divergent validity shown that construct fulfilled for the health, social relationships and participation, home and neighborhood, financial circumstances, culture and religion latent factors, however the results did not support the convergent and divergent validity for three latent factors (Life overall, Independence, control over life, freedom and Psychological and emotional well-being). Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the subscales ranged from 0.65-0.95. Test-retest reliability (ICC) of the questionnaire with two weeks interval were ranged from 0.88-0.95 indicating a good range of reliability. CONCLUSION:The findings suggest that the Iranian version of OPQOL-35 is a valid measure for assessing quality of life in elderly populations in different settings.

Project description:BackgroundAlthough recent decades have witnessed a growing interest in mindfulness with the development of many mindfulness scales and their adaptation to different cultures, there has been no attempt at developing or adapting a mindfulness scale for Vietnamese people. To fill this gap and encourage the study of mindfulness in Vietnam, we adapted a 20-item short-form of the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ-20) into Vietnamese, which we called the FFMQ-V, and examined its psychometric properties in a series of three independent studies.MethodsIn Study 1, using a college sample (N = 412) we conducted several exploratory factor analyses to elucidate the factor structure of the FFMQ-V. In Study 2, using an independent college sample (N = 344) we performed a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to test the goodness-of-fit for all obtained factor models from Study 1. In this study, we also examined the discriminant validities of the FFMQ-V by correlating mindfulness and other related psychological constructs, including acceptance, nonattachment, depression, anxiety, and stress. In Study 3, we replicated all data analyses in Study 2 using a community sample of young adults (N = 574).ResultsAcross all Studies, our results indicated that the hierarchical five-factor model with method factors best captured the latent structure of the FFMQ-V. Our results also showed that the mindfulness facets met our expectations as they correlated positively with the acceptance and nonattachment and negatively with the depression, anxiety, and stress.ConclusionsIn aggregate, our EFA and CFA results provided strong evidence for the hierarchical five-factor model with method factors in both community and college samples, suggesting that the FFMQ-V can be used to measure trait mindfulness of the Vietnamese young adults.

Project description:ObjectiveThe Audio Processor Satisfaction Questionnaire (APSQ) is a standardized tool to measure a user's satisfaction with their audio processor(s). It was first developed and validated in the German language. The purpose of the current study was to validate the English version of the APSQ.DesignThe 15 items of the APSQ were translated into English. Item and scale analyses assessed the quality of individual items and of the questionnaire in its entirety.Study sampleSixty-seven adults with hearing implants participated. Forty-six of them completed the questionnaire twice within 2-4 weeks.ResultsHigh mean values were obtained with total scores and with scores of the comfort, social life, and usability domains, indicating that users are generally satisfied with their audio processors. The questionnaire achieved good test-retest reliability with high internal consistency. A significant positive correlation between time since implantation and user satisfaction was found.ConclusionResults of the item and reliability analyses suggest that the English version of the APSQ is a valid and reliable tool to assess user satisfaction with their audio processor(s).
