Described as a potentially lethal condition that occurs in undernourished patients, refeeding syndrome (RFD) is a severe electrolyte disturbance that includes low intracellular serum concentrations of phosphor, magnesium and potassium in patients undergoing inappropriate oral or parenteral renutrition.
