DNA replication complexes (replisomes) frequently encounter barriers that can eject them prematurely from the genome. To avoid the lethality of incomplete DNA replication that arises from these events, bacteria have evolved "DNA replication restart" mechanisms to reload replisomes onto abandoned replication forks.
