Genome Sequence of Brevibacillus brevis HK544, an Antimicrobial Bacterium Isolated from Soil in Daejeon, South Korea.

ABSTRACT: The Brevibacillus brevis HK544 strain, which was isolated from soil, exhibited antimicrobial activity against plant pathogens such as Botrytis cinerea, Phytophthora infestans, and Erwinia amylovora. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of the B. brevis HK544 strain, which consists of one circular chromosome of 6,486,246 bp with a GC content of 47.3%.

The draft genome sequence of B. brevis FJAT-0809-GLX is 6 Mb in size and consists of 5,677 genes (protein-coding sequences [CDS]), with an average length of 933 bp and a G+C content of 47.30%. Compared with the published B. brevis strain NBRC 100599, 618 specific genes were identified in the strain FJAT-0809-GLX.

Genome sequence of Lysobacter dokdonensis DS-58(T), a gliding bacterium isolated from soil in Dokdo, Korea.

Project description:Lysobacter dokdonensis DS-58, belonging to the family Xanthomonadaceae, was isolated from a soil sample in Dokdo, Korea in 2011. Strain DS-58 is the type strain of L. dokdonensis. In this study, we determined the genome sequence to describe the genomic features including annotation information and COG functional categorization. The draft genome sequence consists of 25 contigs totaling 3,274,406 bp (67.24 % G?+?C) and contains 3,155 protein coding genes, 2 copies of ribosomal RNA operons, and 48 transfer RNA genes. Among the protein coding genes, 75.91 % of the genes were annotated with a putative function and 87.39 % of the genes were assigned to the COG category. In the genome of L. dokdonensis, a large number of genes associated with protein degradation and antibiotic resistance were detected.

Hospital Outbreaks of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, Daejeon, South Korea, 2015.

Project description:From May through July 2015, a total of 26 cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome were reported from 2 hospitals in Daejeon, South Korea, including 1 index case and 25 new cases. We examined the epidemiologic features of these cases and found an estimated median incubation period of 6.1 days (8.8 days in hospital A and 4.6 days in hospital B). The overall attack rate was 3.7% (4.7% in hospital A and 3.0% in hospital B), and the attack rates among inpatients and caregivers in the same ward were 12.3% and 22.5%, respectively. The overall case-fatality rate was 44.0% (28.6% in hospital A and 63.6% in hospital B). The use of cohort quarantine may have played a role in preventing community spread, but additional transmission occurred among members of the hospital cohort quarantined together. Caregivers may have contributed in part to the transmission.
