Draft Genome Sequences of 13 Vibrio cholerae Strains from the Rio Grande Delta.

ABSTRACT: Vibrio cholerae is the etiologic agent of cholera, an acute and often fatal diarrheal disease that affects millions globally. We report the draft genome sequences of 13 non-O1/O139 V. cholerae strains isolated from the Rio Grande Delta in Texas. These genomes will aid future analyses of environmental serovars.

Project description:Vibrio sp. strains JCM 18905 and JCM 19053 were isolated from a tetrodotoxin (TTX)-bearing scavenging gastropod, and Vibrio sp. strain JCM 18904 was isolated from a sea cucumber. All these are closely related to Vibrio alginolyticus. Their comparative genome information is useful for studies of TTX production in bacteria.

Project description:We are reporting whole-genome sequences of nine Vibrio sp. isolates closely related to the waterborne human pathogen Vibrio cholerae. These isolates were recovered from sources, including human samples, from different regions of the United States. Genome analysis suggests that this group of isolates represents a highly divergent basal V. cholerae lineage or a closely related novel species.

Draft Genome Sequences of Clinical Vibrio parahaemolyticus Strains Isolated in Maryland (2010 to 2013).

Project description:Vibrio parahaemolyticus is the leading cause of food-borne illnesses associated with the consumption of raw shellfish worldwide. Here, we report 45 draft genomes of V. parahaemolyticus. Thirty-five of them are strains that were isolated from clinical cases in the state of Maryland from 2010 to 2013. The remaining 10 strains were historical isolates, isolated mostly from the West Coast of the United States during the period of 1988 to 2004. The availability of these genomes will allow for future phylogenetic analyses with other V. parahaemolyticus strains.
