Complete Genome Sequence of Streptococcus oralis 34.

ABSTRACT: Streptococcus oralis is an early colonizer and one of the most abundant species found in the human oral cavity. We report the complete genome sequence of S. oralis 34 (1,920,884 bp; GC content, 41.3%), commonly used in many oral microbiology studies exploring bacterial attachment and interaction(s) within mixed-species model systems.

Project description:Streptococcus oralis is a commensal viridans group streptococcus of the human oral cavity and a frequent cause of endovascular infection. Here, we report the complete whole-genome sequence of S. oralis strain SF100, which was originally isolated from the blood of a patient with infective endocarditis. This strain contains the lysogenic bacteriophage SM1, which enhances the virulence of SF100 in animal models of endocardial infection.

Genome of Streptococcus oralis strain Uo5.

Project description:Streptococcus oralis, a commensal species of the human oral cavity, belongs to the Mitis group of streptococci, which includes one of the major human pathogens as well, S. pneumoniae. We report here the first complete genome sequence of this species. S. oralis Uo5, a high-level penicillin- and multiple-antibiotic-resistant isolate from Hungary, is competent for genetic transformation under laboratory conditions. Comparative and functional genomics of Uo5 will be important in understanding the evolution of pathogenesis among Mitis streptococci and their potential to engage in interspecies gene transfer.

Complete genome sequence of Deinococcus maricopensis type strain (LB-34).

Project description:Deinococcus maricopensis (Rainey and da Costa 2005) is a member of the genus Deinococcus, which is comprised of 44 validly named species and is located within the deeply branching bacterial phylum Deinococcus-Thermus. Strain LB-34(T) was isolated from a soil sample from the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. Various species of the genus Deinococcus are characterized by extreme radiation resistance, with D. maricopensis being resistant in excess of 10 kGy. Even though the genomes of three Deinococcus species, D. radiodurans, D. geothermalis and D. deserti, have already been published, no special physiological characteristic is currently known that is unique to this group. It is therefore of special interest to analyze the genomes of additional species of the genus Deinococcus to better understand how these species adapted to gamma- or UV ionizing-radiation. The 3,498,530 bp long genome of D. maricopensis with its 3,301 protein-coding and 66 RNA genes consists of one circular chromosome and is a part of the Genomic Encyclopedia of Bacteria and Archaea project.

Project description:We report here the complete genome sequence of Streptococcus ratti strain JH145. Streptococcus ratti is a cariogenic species of mutans streptococcus that has been isolated from rat and human teeth. The strain JH145, derived from strain BHT-2, is interesting for oral health because it does not produce cariogenic lactic acid but shows robust biofilm production.

Project description:Halorubrum lacusprofundi is an extreme halophile within the archaeal phylum Euryarchaeota. The type strain ACAM 34 was isolated from Deep Lake, Antarctica. H. lacusprofundi is of phylogenetic interest because it is distantly related to the haloarchaea that have previously been sequenced. It is also of interest because of its psychrotolerance. We report here the complete genome sequence of H. lacusprofundi type strain ACAM 34 and its annotation. This genome is part of a 2006 Joint Genome Institute Community Sequencing Program project to sequence genomes of diverse Archaea.
