Hematopoietic ontogeny consists of two broad programs: an initial hematopoietic stem cell (HSC)-independent program followed by HSC-dependent hematopoiesis that sequentially seed the fetal liver and generate blood cells. However, the transition from HSC-independent to HSC-derived hematopoiesis remains poorly characterized.
