Lagophthalmos of the upper eyelid after rhinoplasty: A case report.

ABSTRACT: Lagophthalmos is an inability to close the eyelids which can result from many causes. Septorhinoplasty surgery is an uncommon reason for that. This paper reports the lagophthalmos complication, after a septorhinoplasty surgery.

Rhinoplasty for Hypertrophied Transverse Nasalis Muscle: A Case Report.

Project description:Negatively impacting the aesthetics of the face, nasal deformities can be attributed to many congenital or acquired causes, of which muscular hypertrophy is uncustomary. In this article, we narrate a case of a 26-year-old woman with a prominently wide mid-vault, in addition to other abnormalities of the nose. It was thought to originate from soft tissue because it was thick and firm to palpation. Open rhinoplasty was done where hypertrophy of the paired transverse nasalis muscle was observed and resected. The patient enjoyed a safe postoperative period with excellent cosmetic results and minimal effect on the nasal function in terms of breathing and pronunciation. We recommend this approach to any patient with a similar disfigurement due to its simplicity and ability to correct other co-existing nasal disfigurements.

Congenital combined eyelid imbrication and floppy eyelid syndrome: case report and review of literature.

Project description:Congenital eyelid imbrication syndrome (CEIS) is an extremely rare, benign, transient, self-limiting eyelid malposition disorder. The classic triad of signs in patients with a CEIS consists of bilateral upper eyelids overriding the lower eyelids when child was in sleep, bilateral medial and lateral canthal tendon laxity and tarsal conjunctival hyperemia. We report a third case of congenital combined eyelid imbrication and floppy eyelid syndrome in healthy neonate that was resolved within a week with conservative treatment.

Updates on upper eyelid blepharoplasty.

Project description:The human face is composed of small functional and cosmetic units, of which the eyes and periocular region constitute the main point of focus in routine face-to-face interactions. This dynamic region plays a pivotal role in the expression of mood, emotion, and character, thus making it the most relevant component of the facial esthetic and functional unit. Any change in the periocular unit leads to facial imbalance and functional disharmony, leading both the young and the elderly to seek consultation, thus making blepharoplasty the surgical procedure of choice for both cosmetic and functional amelioration. The applied anatomy, indications of upper eyelid blepharoplasty, preoperative workup, surgical procedure, postoperative care, and complications would be discussed in detail in this review article.

Solitary Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma Metastasis to the Eyelid: A Case Report.

Project description:IntroductionThis study is a case of solitary clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) eyelid metastasis in a 66-year-old man as the first sign of a primary tumor. ccRCC usually spreads to the lungs, mediastinum, bones, liver, and brain, while ocular metastases are rare.Case presentationSolitary metastasis presented as a solid mass in the central third of the upper eyelid, which has been growing for 3 weeks. Treatment included tumor removal and blepharoplasty. Histopathological examination showed metastasis of clear cell renal carcinoma. A thorough examination revealed a primary tumor on the lower pole of the right kidney. A right nephrectomy was performed, and histopathology showed ccRCC. Postoperative examinations showed no signs of local or systemic disease. Sunitinib malate was administered to the patient.ConclusionThe eyelid metastasis in this case was still solitary and had been discovered before the existence of the primary tumor was known. Ocular metastasis of renal carcinoma is a rare initial manifestation of the disease and therefore requires a multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of these patients.

Multiple chromoanasynthesis in a rare case of sporadic renal leiomyosarcoma: case report

Project description:Renal leiomyosarcomas (LMS) are extremely rare neoplasms with aggressive behaviour and poor survival prognosis. The most frequent somatic events in leiomyosarcomas are mutations in TP53, RB1, ATRX and PTEN genes, chromosomal instability and chromoanagenesis. By using chromosomal microarray analysis we identified monosomy of chromosomes 3 and 11, gain of Xp (ATRX) arm and three chromoanasynthesis regions (6q21-q27, 7p22.3-p12.1 and 12q13.11-q21.2), with MDM2 and CDK4 oncogenes copy number gains, whereas no CNVs or tumor specific SNVs in TP53, RB1 and PTEN genes were observed.

Cutaneous adenoid cystic carcinoma of lower eyelid: Case report of a rare malignant entity.

Project description:Introductioncutaneous adenoid cystic carcinoma is a rare epithelial tumor with slow development, it is most often described in the scalp; palpebral involvement is very rare. And is accompanied by local aggressiveness and frequent recurrence. The aim of this work is to discuss the management and the interest of a close surveillance of adenoid cystic carcinoma.Case presentationThe authors report a case of palpebral cystic adenoid carcinoma in a 65-year-old patient who underwent surgical excision followed by reconstruction of the loss of substance.DiscussionCutaneous cystic adenoid carcinoma of the eyelids remains a very rare entity that must be evoked in front of a nodular cutaneous palpebral tumor that progresses slowly. An early diagnosis and a complete excision guarantee a better prognosis.ConclusionAdenoid cystic carcinoma, because of its local aggressiveness and its capacity to recur despite satisfactory surgical removal, requires long-term surveillance. Its surgery may be responsible for functional and aesthetic sequelae.
