Draft Genome Sequences of Staphylococcus sp. Strain CWZ226, of Unknown Origin, and Pseudomonas sp. Strain CVAP#3, Antagonistic to Strain CWZ226.

ABSTRACT: Many Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas species, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, are opportunistic human pathogens. However, Pseudomonas species are also known to produce bioactive compounds. Here, we report on the genome sequences of a Pseudomonas isolate and a Staphylococcus species of unknown origin that it inhibits.

Draft genome sequence analysis of a Pseudomonas putida W15Oct28 strain with antagonistic activity to Gram-positive and Pseudomonas sp. pathogens.

Project description:Pseudomonas putida is a member of the fluorescent pseudomonads known to produce the yellow-green fluorescent pyoverdine siderophore. P. putida W15Oct28, isolated from a stream in Brussels, was found to produce compound(s) with antimicrobial activity against the opportunistic pathogens Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and the plant pathogen Pseudomonas syringae, an unusual characteristic for P. putida. The active compound production only occurred in media with low iron content and without organic nitrogen sources. Transposon mutants which lost their antimicrobial activity had the majority of insertions in genes involved in the biosynthesis of pyoverdine, although purified pyoverdine was not responsible for the antagonism. Separation of compounds present in culture supernatants revealed the presence of two fractions containing highly hydrophobic molecules active against P. aeruginosa. Analysis of the draft genome confirmed the presence of putisolvin biosynthesis genes and the corresponding lipopeptides were found to contribute to the antimicrobial activity. One cluster of ten genes was detected, comprising a NAD-dependent epimerase, an acetylornithine aminotransferase, an acyl CoA dehydrogenase, a short chain dehydrogenase, a fatty acid desaturase and three genes for a RND efflux pump. P. putida W15Oct28 genome also contains 56 genes encoding TonB-dependent receptors, conferring a high capacity to utilize pyoverdines from other pseudomonads. One unique feature of W15Oct28 is also the presence of different secretion systems including a full set of genes for type IV secretion, and several genes for type VI secretion and their VgrG effectors.

Project description:Mitsuaria sp. strain H24L5A is a plant-associated bacterium with proven capacities to suppress plant pathogens. Here, we report the draft genome sequences and automatic annotation of H24L5A. Comparative genomic analysis indicates H24L5A's similarity to the Leptothrix and Methylibium species, as well as several genes potentially contributing to its biocontrol activities.

Draft Genome Sequences of Pseudomonas sp. Strains Isolated from Wheat in Germany.

Project description:Three chloramphenicol-resistant Pseudomonas sp. strains were isolated from wheat grain in Germany on rose Bengal agar. The draft genome sizes ranged from 5,924,931 to 6,124,470 bp. All the isolates possessed genes for efflux pumps that might be responsible for an intrinsic chloramphenicol resistance. No acquired antibiotic resistance genes in these strains could be determined.

Project description:We report here the draft genome sequences of eight bacterial strains of the genera Staphylococcus, Microbacterium, Mycobacterium, Plantibacter, and Pseudomonas. These isolates were obtained from aerosol sampling of bathrooms of five residences in the San Francisco Bay area. Taxonomic classifications as well as the genome sequence and gene annotation of the isolates are described. As part of the "Built Environment Reference Genome" project, these isolates and associated genome data provide valuable resources for studying the microbiology of the built environment.
