Methionine is an aliphatic, sulfur-containing, essential amino acid that has been demonstrated to have crucial roles in metabolism, innate immunity, and activation of endogenous antioxidant enzymes, including methionine sulfoxide reductase A/B and the biosynthesis of glutathione to counteract oxidative stress.
