Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a cervid prion disease caused by the accumulation of an infectious misfolded conformer (PrP<sup>Sc</sup>) of cellular prion protein (PrP<sup>C</sup>). It has been spreading rapidly in North America and also found in Asia and Europe.
