Stearoyl-CoA desaturases (SCD) are endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-associated enzymes that catalyze the synthesis of the monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs). As such, SCD play important roles in maintaining the intracellular balance between saturated fatty acid (SFAs) and MUFAs.
