K<sub>ATP</sub> channels are metabolic sensors that translate intracellular ATP/ADP balance into membrane excitability. The molecular composition of K<sub>ATP</sub> includes an inward-rectifier potassium channel (Kir) and an ABC transporter-like sulfonylurea receptor (SUR).
