Project description:In this article, we present a dataset containing history-related content obtained from social media. It contains hashtags and tweets that include these hashtags, as well as the results of third party tools applied to the tweets that include extracted entities, years, and url categories, and the categories for the history-related hashtags we used to crawl the tweets. We collected the tweets from Twitter official API using hashtag-based crawling. The crawling process had been performed from March 2016 to July 2018. During the crawling, we applied a bootstrapping approach which is an iterative process of collecting tweets using a small set of seed hashtags, and a manual inspection of newly acquired hashtags that co-occur with the seed hashtags to include those they are related to history. Finally, we collected 147 history-related hashtags and 2,370,252 tweets. We then defined 6 categories for the collected hashtags after their manual investigation. The presented dataset could be useful for further analysis on how people refer to history in Twitter, for collecting new history-related tweets, for training classifiers to detect history-related tweets, or for further investigations of the proposed hashtag categories.

Project description:Recent advances in birdsong detection and classification have approached a limit due to the lack of fully annotated recordings. In this paper, we present NIPS4Bplus, the first richly annotated birdsong audio dataset, that is comprised of recordings containing bird vocalisations along with their active species tags plus the temporal annotations acquired for them. Statistical information about the recordings, their species specific tags and their temporal annotations are presented along with example uses. NIPS4Bplus could be used in various ecoacoustic tasks, such as training models for bird population monitoring, species classification, birdsong vocalisation detection and classification.

Project description:The use of social media data, like Twitter, for biomedical research has been gradually increasing over the years. With the COVID-19 pandemic, researchers have turned to more nontraditional sources of clinical data to characterize the disease in near real-time, study the societal implications of interventions, as well as the sequelae that recovered COVID-19 cases present (Long-COVID). However, manually curated social media datasets are difficult to come by due to the expensive costs of manual annotation and the efforts needed to identify the correct texts. When datasets are available, they are usually very small and their annotations do not generalize well over time or to larger sets of documents. As part of the 2021 Biomedical Linked Annotation Hackathon, we release our dataset of over 120 million automatically annotated tweets for biomedical research purposes. Incorporating best practices, we identify tweets with potentially high clinical relevance. We evaluated our work by comparing several SpaCy-based annotation frameworks against a manually annotated gold-standard dataset. Selecting the best method to use for automatic annotation, we then annotated 120 million tweets and released them publicly for future downstream usage within the biomedical domain.

Project description:Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) is vital to support the numerous, future applications that are envisioned in the 5G and beyond mobile networks. Since computation capabilities are available at the edge of the network, applications that need ultra low-latency, high bandwidth and reliability can be deployed more easily. This opens up the possibility of developing smart resource allocation approaches that can exploit the MEC infrastructure in an optimized way and, at the same time, fulfill the requirements of applications. However, up to date, the progress of research in this area is limited by the unavailability of publicly available true MEC topologies that could be used to run extensive experiments and to compare the performance on different solutions concerning planning, scheduling, routing etc. For this reason, we decided to infer and make publicly available several synthetic MEC topologies and scenarios. Specifically, based on the experience we have gathered with our experiments Xiang et al. [1], we provide data related to 3 randomly generated topologies, with increasing network size (from 25 to 100 nodes). Moreover, we propose a MEC topology generated from OpenCellID [2] real data and concerning the Base Stations' location of 234 LTE cells owned by a mobile operator (Vodafone) in the center of Milan. We also provide realistic reference parameters (link bandwidth, computation and storage capacity, offered traffic), derived from real services provided by MEC in the deployment of 5G networks.

Project description:Hospitalized geriatric patients are a highly heterogeneous group often with variable diseases and conditions. Physicians, and geriatricians especially, are devoted to seeking non-invasive testing tools to support a timely, accurate diagnosis. Chinese tongue diagnosis, mainly based on the color and texture of the tongue, offers a unique solution. To develop a non-invasive assessment tool using machine learning in supporting a timely, accurate diagnosis in the elderly, we created an annotated dataset of 15% of 688 (=100) tongue images collected from hospitalized geriatric patients in a tertiary hospital in Shanghai, China. Images were captured via a light-field camera using CIELAB color space (to simulate human visual perception) and then were manually labeled by a panel of subject matter experts after chart reviewing patients' clinical information documented in the hospital's information system. We expect that the dataset can assist in implementing a systematic means of conducting Chinese tongue diagnosis, predicting geriatric syndromes using tongue appearance, and even developing an mHealth application to provide individualized health suggestions for the elderly.

Project description:Fully-automated nuclear image segmentation is the prerequisite to ensure statistically significant, quantitative analyses of tissue preparations,applied in digital pathology or quantitative microscopy. The design of segmentation methods that work independently of the tissue type or preparation is complex, due to variations in nuclear morphology, staining intensity, cell density and nuclei aggregations. Machine learning-based segmentation methods can overcome these challenges, however high quality expert-annotated images are required for training. Currently, the limited number of annotated fluorescence image datasets publicly available do not cover a broad range of tissues and preparations. We present a comprehensive, annotated dataset including tightly aggregated nuclei of multiple tissues for the training of machine learning-based nuclear segmentation algorithms. The proposed dataset covers sample preparation methods frequently used in quantitative immunofluorescence microscopy. We demonstrate the heterogeneity of the dataset with respect to multiple parameters such as magnification, modality, signal-to-noise ratio and diagnosis. Based on a suggested split into training and test sets and additional single-nuclei expert annotations, machine learning-based image segmentation methods can be trained and evaluated.

Project description:As vectors of malaria, dengue, zika, and yellow fever, mosquitoes are considered one of the more severe worldwide health hazards. Widespread surveillance of mosquitoes is essential for understanding their complex ecology and behaviour, and also for predicting and formulating effective control strategies against mosquito-borne diseases. One technique involves using bioacoustics to automatically identify different species from their wing-beat sounds during flight. In this dataset, we collect sounds of three species of mosquitoes: Aedes Aegypti, Culex Quinquefasciatus & Pipiens, and Culiseta. These species were collected and reproduced in the laboratory of the Natural History Museum of Funchal, in Portugal, by entomologists trained to recognize and classify mosquitoes. For collecting the samples, we used a microcontroller and a mobile phone. The dataset presents audio samples collected with different sampling rates, where 34 audio features characterize each sound file, making it is possible to observe how mosquito populations vary heterogeneously. This dataset provides the basis for feature extraction and classification of flapping-wing flight sounds that could be used to identify different species.

Project description:Milk microfiltration process plays a key role in the dairy industry. Crossflow microfiltration of skimmed milk using a membrane with 0.1 µm mean pore size is widely used to fractionate the two main groups of dairy proteins: casein micelles (~150 nm) and serum proteins (~2-15 nm). Retentate, containing mainly casein micelles, is generally used to enrich vat milk for cheese making. Permeate, containing serum proteins, lactose and minerals, is usually ultrafiltered in order to produce protein-rich concentrate with a high nutritional value dedicated to specific populations such as infants and seniors. The great interest in these protein fractions explains the increasing number of microfiltration equipments in the dairy industry. This data article contains data associated with milk microfiltration process experiments and properties of the resulting dairy fractions annotated from a collection of scientific documents. These data are stored in INRAE public repository (see Data accessibility in the Specification Table for direct links to data). They have been structured using MILK MICROFILTRATION ontology and are replicated in @Web data warehouse providing additional querying tools (https://www6.inrae.fr/cati-icat-atweb/).

Project description:BackgroundMelanoma is one of the least common but the deadliest of skin cancers. This cancer begins when the genes of a cell suffer damage or fail, and identifying the genes involved in melanoma is crucial for understanding the melanoma tumorigenesis. Thousands of publications about human melanoma appear every year. However, while biological curation of data is costly and time-consuming, to date the application of machine learning for gene-melanoma relation extraction from text has been severely limited by the lack of annotated resources.ResultsTo overcome this lack of resources for melanoma, we have exploited the information of the Melanoma Gene Database (MGDB, a manually curated database of genes involved in human melanoma) to automatically build an annotated dataset of binary relations between gene and melanoma entities occurring in PubMed abstracts. The entities were automatically annotated by state-of-the-art text-mining tools. Their annotation includes both the mention text spans and normalized concept identifiers. The relations among the entities were annotated at concept- and mention-level. The concept-level annotation was produced using the information of the genes in MGDB to decide if a relation holds between a gene and melanoma concept in the whole abstract. The exploitability of this dataset was tested with both traditional machine learning, and neural network-based models like BERT. The models were then used to automatically extract gene-melanoma relations from the biomedical literature. Most of the current models use context-aware representations of the target entities to establish relations between them. To facilitate researchers in their experiments we generated a mention-level annotation in support to the concept-level annotation. The mention-level annotation was generated by automatically linking gene and melanoma mentions co-occurring within the sentences that in MGDB establish the association of the gene with melanoma.ConclusionsThis paper presents a corpus containing gene-melanoma annotated relations. Additionally, it discusses experiments which show the usefulness of such a corpus for training a system capable of mining gene-melanoma relationships from the literature. Researchers can use the corpus to develop and compare their own models, and produce results which might be integrated with existing structured knowledge databases, which in turn might facilitate medical research.

Project description:Social media was a heavily used platform by people in different countries to express their opinions about different crises, especially during the Covid-19 pandemics. This dataset is created through collecting people's comments in the news items on the official Facebook site of the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo. The dataset contains a total of 10,132 comments that are human-annotated in the Albanian language as a low-resource language. The dataset was collected from March 12, 2020, and this coincides with the emergence of the first confirmed Covid-19 case in Kosovo until August 31, 2020, when the second wave started. Due to the scarcity of labeled data for low-resource languages, the dataset can be used by the research community in the field of machine learning, information retrieval, affective computing, as well as by the public agencies and decision makers.
