Taxonomic studies on the genus Isotrema (Aristolochiaceae) from China III: I.pseudohei, a new species from Yunnan, Southwest China.

ABSTRACT: Isotremapseudohei, a new species from Yunnan, Southwest China, is described and illustrated. It is morphologically similar to I.hei and I.moupinense, but differs from the former in the colour of flower and throat, the size of throat and the shape of gynostemium lobes, and from the latter in the shape of lamina and gynostemium lobes.

Project description:Isotrema cangshanense X.X.Zhu, H.L.Zheng & J.S.Ma, a new species from western Yunnan, China, is described and illustrated here. It is similar to I. utriforme, I. forrestianum, I. cucurbitoides and I. obliquum The major differences between them are outlined and discussed. A detailed description, along with line drawings, photographs, habitat and distribution, as well as a comparison to morphologically similar species, is also provided. Meanwhile, the new taxon is assessed as Vulnerable (VU D2), according to the IUCN Red List criteria.

Project description:A new species of Isotrema was recently discovered from Guizhou, China and is here named as I. brevilimbum. It is most similar to I. ovatifolium and I. wardianum, but differs in the morphology of leaves and flowers. A detailed description for the new species, along with line drawings, photographs, as well as morphological comparisons with similar species, are provided. In addition, the distribution of I. wardianum in China is here confirmed.

Isotrema sanyaense, a new species of Aristolochiaceae from Hainan, China.

Project description:Isotrema sanyaense R.T.Li, X.X.Zhu & Z.W.Wang, sp. nov., a new species from Hainan island, China, is described and illustrated here. It is morphologically most similar to I. ledongense (Han Xu, Y.D.Li & H.J.Yang) X.X.Zhu, S.Liao & J.S.Ma and I. jianfenglingense (Han Xu, Y.D.Li & H.Q.Chen) X.X.Zhu, S.Liao & J.S.Ma in the shape of leaf, flower, and the yellow to brown villous indumentum of the pedicel, ovary and calyx. However, I. sanyaense can be easily distinguished from the latter two species by its 1-5-flowered cymes, in hanging clusters of 1 to numerous branches, upper calyx tube obviously longer than basal calyx tube, calyx limb discoid, yellow inside, with purple-red stripes and spots, about 13-18 mm in diameter, glabrous, and a throat dark red without spots, 4-6 mm wide.

The taxonomic revision of Asian Aristolochia (Aristolochiaceae) V: two new species from Yunnan, China.

Project description:Aristolochia pseudoutriformis X.X.Zhu & J.S.Ma, sp. nov. and A. yangii X.X.Zhu & J.S.Ma, sp. nov., two new species from Yunnan, China, are described and illustrated here. The former is morphologically similar to A. utriformis and A. forrestiana and the latter is similar to A. cucurbitoides and A. forrestiana. According to Ma's (1989a) classification, both new species belong to Aristolochia subgenus Siphisia on the basis of the 3-lobed gynostemium and oblong anthers that are adnate in pairs, opposite the gynostemium lobes. Meanwhile, the two new species are assessed as Vulnerable (VU D2) according to IUCN Red List criteria.

A New Species of the Genus Pseudocalotes (Squamata: Agamidae) from Southwest Yunnan, China.

Project description:In this study, a new species of the genus Pseudocalotes is described from Yingjiang County, Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China, based on four female specimens. It can be distinguished from its congeners by the following combination of characters: (1) interoculabials 3 or 4; (2) canthals 5-7; (3) cicrcumorbitals 8-11; (4) 1 scale between rostral and nasal; (5) interparietal 1; (6) superciliaries 4-6; (7) supralabials 6-7, the 1st in contact with the nasal; (8) infralabials 6-8; (9) transverse gular fold and antehumeral fold present; (10) 2-3 enlarged scales between eye and ear; (11) nuchal crest single, consists of 3-5 erected spines; (12) dorsal crest row single, discontinuous and low, located between two keeled, parallel and enlarged scale rows; (13) enlarged postrictals absent; (14) scales around midbody 53-62, dorsal body scales heterogenous in size and shape; (15) midventrals smaller than dorsals; (16) subdigital scales on the 4th finger 20-26, and on the 4th toe 24-29; (17) dorsal background coloration light taupe with four irregular brown patches along the middle of dorsal; (18) inner lips wathet, tongue aurantiacus, throat bluish black. The population from Yingjiang County was nested within a highly supported lineage, formed a sister taxon with P. kakhienensis (SH 97/UFB 100) and according to the p-distance, the new species differed from its congeners by 14.5% to 35.2% for NADH dehydrogenase subunit 2 (ND2) and 15.5% to 25.0% for NADH dehydrogenase subunit 4 (ND4).

Project description:Hemilophiacardiocarpa (Brassicaceae), the sixth species of the Chinese endemic genus Hemilophia, is described and illustrated. This plant is found in the Jiaozishan Mountains in Dongchuan District, northern Yunnan, southwest China. Morphologically, it shows close relationships with H.rockii and H.pulchella, but differs from it in the leaf shape and size, inflorescence, flower size, shape of fruit and length of its pedicel. An updated key to the taxa of Hemilophia is provided.

Project description:Indigoferavallicola (Fabaceae), a new species is described and illustrated. This plant is only found from two localities in the central Yunnan Province, southwest China. It is characterized by having the prostrate habit, usually 13-17-foliolate leaves and the relatively small (3-5 mm long) flowers. Morphological comparisons with its closest relatives, I.rigioclada, I.franchetii, I.chaetodonta, and I.henryi are also presented.

Project description:Campanulaluzhijiangensis (Campanulaceae: Campanuleae) is described and illustrated as a new species from Yunnan, southwest China. The new species is mainly characterized by its relatively gracile stems polyphyllous, small and oblanceolate leaves, and flowers and fruits with small size within Chinese Campanula. It is only known from a single locality in the valley of the Luzhijiang River, usually occurring in the rock crevices, xerophilous scrubs or grasslands. A table of morphological characters comparing the new species with its closest relatives is provided along with a key to the species of Campanula from Yunnan Province, as well as a preliminary conservation assessment of C.luzhijiangensis under the IUCN criteria.

Gentianamopanshanensis (Gentianaceae), a new species from Yunnan, southwest China.

Project description:Gentianamopanshanensis, a new species of the family Gentianaceae is here described and illustrated. This species is presently known only from the Mopanshan Mountain, Yunnan Province, southwest China. Phylogenetic analysis based on ITS sequence data has shown that this new species is a member of the series Fimbriatae of the section Chondrophyllae. Morphologically, it mostly resembles G.mairei and G.panthaica, but differs clearly from the latter two species in the shape and size of the leaves, and the characters of the corolla throat and plicae.
