Smartphone Sensor Dataset for Driver Behavior Analysis.

ABSTRACT: Driving is considered one of the most difficult tasks because the driver is responsible for a variety of other responsibilities in addition to driving. The primary responsibility of a driver should be to properly operate a vehicle while concentrating solely on driving. However, he/she must also complete various secondary jobs at the same time. Modeling realistic driving behavior proved tough for researchers and scientists. With this goal in mind, we constructed a Smartphone sensor dataset of Indian drivers, complete with driving parameters that have a significant impact on driving behavior. As a result, we created a dataset using Smartphone sensors such as the accelerometer and gyroscope. The data is organized into day-by-day folders, each with seven subfolders. We are confident that the suggested dataset will be beneficial in the training, testing, and validation of a machine learning model for driver behavior classification or reorganization.

Project description:Mobile devices especially smartphones have gained high popularity and become a part of daily life in recent years. Therefore, there are many studies that investigate users' interactions with smartphones and try to extract meaningful information from various inputs. Actually, the main motivation behind these studies is the behavioral differences of users in their interactions with smartphones. In these studies, motion sensors in devices such as accelerometer and gyroscope are widely used. Data obtained from motion sensors allows to detect information such as age-group, gender, activity type, identity of users. In this context, we develop an Android application that gathers accelerometer sensor data while users perform different activities. This application records all accelerometer data and touch event information generated while users are using their devices. Then, we perform two experiments and collect two different data using this application. In the first experiment, we collect data from 107 child users and 100 adult users to analyze the impact of different age-groups' behavior on sensor data. This dataset includes more than 11.000 taps data for child and adult users, in total. In the second experiment, data is collected from 60 female and 60 male users for different activities like sitting and walking. There are more than 6.000 taps data for sitting and walking scenarios separately in the second dataset. This dataset makes it possible to analyze the changes created by different gender and activity types in the sensor data. These data can be used for behavioral biometric analyses on smartphones such as user age-group and gender detection, user identification and authentication.

The raw data presented here can be used as material to analyze the behavior of international tourists related to any media that affects international tourists in planning their trips, and how they behave during traveling. This data is a source of raw data from our research on smartphones and international tourist behavior, besides being used for various other research purposes.

Description of movement sensor dataset for dog behavior classification.

Project description:Movement sensor data from seven static and dynamic dog behaviors (sitting, standing, lying down, trotting, walking, playing, and (treat) searching i.e. sniffing) was collected from 45 middle to large sized dogs with six degree-of-freedom movement sensors attached to the collar and the harness. With 17 dogs the collection procedure was repeated. The duration of each of the seven behaviors was approximately three minutes. The order of the tasks was varied between the dogs and the two repetitions (for the 17 dogs). The behaviors were annotated post-hoc based on the video recordings made with two camcorders during the tests with one second resolution. The annotations were accurately synchronized with the raw movement sensors data. The annotated data was originally used for training behavior classification machine learning algorithms for classifying the seven behaviors. The developed signal processing and classification algorithms are provided together with the raw measurement data and reference annotations. A multimodal driver monitoring benchmark dataset for driver modeling in assisted driving automation.

Project description:In driver monitoring various data types are collected from drivers and used for interpreting, modeling, and predicting driver behavior, and designing interactions. Aim of this contribution is to introduce manD 1.0, a multimodal dataset that can be used as a benchmark for driver monitoring in the context of automated driving. manD is the short form of human dimension in automated driving. manD 1.0 refers to a dataset that contains data from multiple driver monitoring sensors collected from 50 participants, gender-balanced, aged between 21 to 65 years. They drove through five different driving scenarios in a static driving simulator under controlled laboratory conditions. The automation level (SAE International, Standard J3016) ranged from SAE L0 (no automation, manual) to SAE L3 (conditional automation, temporal). To capture data reflecting various mental and physical states of the subjects, the scenarios encompassed a range of distinct driving events and conditions. manD 1.0 includes environmental data such as traffic and weather conditions, vehicle data like the SAE level and driving parameters, and driver state that covers physiology, body movements, activities, gaze, and facial information, all synchronized. This dataset supports applications like data-driven modeling, prediction of driver reactions, crafting of interaction strategies, and research into motion sickness.

Network models of driver behavior.

Project description:The way people behave in traffic is not always optimal from the road safety perspective: drivers exceed speed limits, misjudge speeds or distances, tailgate other road users or fail to perceive them. Such behaviors are commonly investigated using self-report-based latent variable models, and conceptualized as reflections of violation- and error-proneness. However, attributing dangerous behavior to stable properties of individuals may not be the optimal way of improving traffic safety, whereas investigating direct relationships between traffic behaviors offers a fruitful way forward. Network models of driver behavior and background factors influencing behavior were constructed using a large UK sample of novice drivers. The models show how individual violations, such as speeding, are related to and may contribute to individual errors such as tailgating and braking to avoid an accident. In addition, a network model of the background factors and driver behaviors was constructed. Finally, a model predicting crashes based on prior behavior was built and tested in separate datasets. This contribution helps to bridge a gap between experimental/theoretical studies and self-report-based studies in traffic research: the former have recognized the importance of focusing on relationships between individual driver behaviors, while network analysis offers a way to do so for self-report studies.

Understanding Willingness to Share Smartphone-Sensor Data.

Project description:The growing smartphone penetration and the integration of smartphones into people's everyday practices offer researchers opportunities to augment survey measurement with smartphone-sensor measurement or to replace self-reports. Potential benefits include lower measurement error, a widening of research questions, collection of in situ data, and a lowered respondent burden. However, privacy considerations and other concerns may lead to nonparticipation. To date, little is known about the mechanisms of willingness to share sensor data by the general population, and no evidence is available concerning the stability of willingness. The present study focuses on survey respondents' willingness to share data collected using smartphone sensors (GPS, camera, and wearables) in a probability-based online panel of the general population of the Netherlands. A randomized experiment varied study sponsor, framing of the request, the emphasis on control over the data collection process, and assurance of privacy and confidentiality. Respondents were asked repeatedly about their willingness to share the data collected using smartphone sensors, with varying periods before the second request. Willingness to participate in sensor-based data collection varied by the type of sensor, study sponsor, order of the request, respondent's familiarity with the device, previous experience with participating in research involving smartphone sensors, and privacy concerns. Willingness increased when respondents were asked repeatedly and varied by sensor and task. The timing of the repeated request, one month or six months after the initial request, did not have a significant effect on willingness.

Real-world sensor dataset for city inbound-outbound critical intersection analysis

Project description:This paper reports the release of dataset that describes the critical city inbound-outbound intersection in the central business district’s Sathorn area of Bangkok, Thailand. The available traffic volume and occupancy are captured by sensors located on the Sathorn area’s links. Induction loop coil sensors and thermal and CCTV cameras have been installed at the approaching links of the critical Sathorn-Surasak intersection. Traffic volume data have been collected from the CCTV cameras every 5 s from 2016 to 2019, and occupancy and volume data have been collected from the loop coil sensors every 5 s from May to September 2016 during a social experiment that was part of Sathorn Model project. Occupancy and volume data have also been collected from the thermal cameras every 5 s from May to June 2016. The dataset provides temporal and spatial coverage of Sathorn Road’s primary urban areas, including weekdays, weekends, and public holidays. This dataset can be resources for research on traffic state estimation, traffic light control optimization, and the analysis of critical intersections. Electrochemiluminescence Mechanisms Investigated with Smartphone-Based Sensor Data Modeling, Parameter Estimation and Sensitivity Analysis.

Project description:The present study introduces a unified framework combining a mechanistic model with a genetic algorithm (GA) for the parameter estimation of electrochemiluminescence (ECL) kinetics of the Ru(bpy)3 2+/TPrA system occurring in a smartphone-based sensor. The framework allows a straightforward solution for simultaneous estimation of multiple parameters which can be, otherwise, time-consuming and lead to non-convergence. Model parameters are estimated by achieving a high correlation between the model prediction and the measured ECL intensity from the ECL sensor. The developed model is used to perform a sensitivity analysis (SA), which provides quantitative effects of the model parameters on the concentrations of chemical species involved in the system. The results demonstrate that the GA-based parameter estimation and the SA approaches are effective in analyzing the kinetics of the ECL mechanism. Therefore, these approaches can be incorporated as analysis tools in the ECL kinetics study with practical application in the calibration of mechanistic models for any required sensing condition.

Colorimetric-Luminance Readout for Quantitative Analysis of Fluorescence Signals with a Smartphone CMOS Sensor.

Project description:Smartphones have shown promise as an enabling technology for portable and distributed point-of-care diagnostic tests. The CMOS camera sensor can be used for detecting optical signals, including fluorescence for applications such as isothermal nucleic acid amplification tests. However, such analysis is typically limited mostly to end point detection of single targets. Here we present a smartphone-based image analysis pipeline that utilizes the CIE xyY (chromaticity-luminance) color space to measure the luminance (in lieu of RGB intensities) of fluorescent signals arising from nucleic acid amplification targets, with a discrimination sensitivity (ratio between the positive to negative signals), which is an order of magnitude more than traditional RGB intensity based analysis. Furthermore, the chromaticity part of the analysis enables reliable multiplexed detection of different targets labeled with spectrally separated fluorophores. We apply this chromaticity-luminance formulation to simultaneously detect Zika and chikungunya viral RNA via end point RT-LAMP (Reverse transcription Loop-Mediated isothermal amplification). We also show real time LAMP detection of Neisseria gonorrhoeae samples down to a copy number of 3.5 copies per 10 μL of reaction volume in our smartphone-operated portable LAMP box. Our chromaticity-luminance analysis is readily adaptable to other types of multiplexed fluorescence measurements using a smartphone camera.

Smartphone-Based Dopamine Detection by Fluorescent Supramolecular Sensor.

Project description:Supramolecular recognition of dopamine by two quinoxaline cavitands was studied in solution by fluorescence titrations, ESI-MS and ROESY measurements. In addition, the tetraquinoxaline cavitand was dropped onto a siloxane-based polymeric solid support, obtaining a sensor able to detect dopamine in a linear range of concentrations 10 Mm-100 pM, with a detection limit of 1 pM, much lower than the normal concentration values in the common human fluids (plasma, urine and saliva), by using a simple smartphone as detector. This sensor shows also good selectivity for dopamine respect to the other common analytes contained in a saliva sample and can be reused after acid-base cycles, paving the way for the realization of real practical sensor for human dopamine detection.
