Complete mitochondrial genome of the feather star Cenometra bella (Hartlaub, 1890) (Crinoidea: Colobometridae).

ABSTRACT: The complete mitochondrial genome of the feather star Cenometra bella was sequenced in this study. The mitogenome is 15,872 bp in length, with 13 PCGs, 22 tRNA, and two rRNA, and nucleotide composition was as follows: 24.38% A, 47.79% T, 11.16% C, and 16.68% G. Phylogenetic analyses place C. bella as closely related to Stephanometra indica, consistent with previous inferences.

Project description:The genus Thaumatocrinus is composed of species displaying 10 undivided arms arising from 10 radials. Thaumatocrinus naresi is also considered to be a 10-arm species, but individuals with 9 arms were also reported. Here, we report the mitochondrial genome of T. naresi with 9 arms collected from the western Pacific. The genome is 16,047 bp in length with a 67.84% AT content. It contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and 22 transfer RNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis shows that T. naresi forms an independent lineage within Comatulida.

Project description:Comaster schlegelii, belonging to the family Comatulidae, is a variable feather star distributed in the Pacific Ocean. The complete mitochondrial genome of this species was 15,887 bp in length, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transport RNA genes, two ribosomal RNA genes and one control region. The whole mitochondrial genome of C. schlegelii had a high AT content of 72.73%. The phylogenetic relationship was reconstructed with 16 relevant echinoderms, which revealed C. schlegelii was closely clustered with Anneissia pinguis in the family Comatulidae.

Project description:Anneissia intermedia (A.H. Clark, 1916) is a common crinoid found in waters along the coastlines of China, Japan, and Korea. In this study, we determined the complete mitogenome of A. intermedia. The genome was found to be 15,874 bp in length and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, and 2 rRNAs. With the exception of Antedon mediterranea, the gene order and genetic characteristics of the A. intermedia mitogenome are identical with those of the mitogenomes of other crinoids. The complete mitogenome of A. intermedia will contribute to enhance our understanding of the phylogeny of crinoids.

In this study, we report the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of P. prolixa (Comatulida: Antedonidae). The complete mitogenome of P. prolixa was 15,916 bp long and comprised 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes, and 2 ribosomal RNA genes. The base composition of the P. prolixa mitogenome was 24.0% A, 44.9% T, 19.0% G, and 12.1% C. Phylogenetic analysis using all PCGs of the complete mitogenome confirmed the inclusion of P. prolixa within the Comatulida.

Complete mitochondrial genome of the crinoid echinoderm, Florometra species (Echinodermata, Crinoidea).

Project description:In this study, we report the sequence of the mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of the crinoid echinoderm, Florometra species (Echinodermata, Crinoidea). The complete mitogenome of Florometra sp. was 15,792 base pairs long and was composed of 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and three regions of unassigned sequence (UAS) including one putative control region. Unique nucleotide composition, a clear positive bias for T with an apparent loss of C in PCGs as observed in the Crinoidea mitogenomes, was also seen in the Florometra sp. mitogenome (45% T, 12% C). Phylogenetic analysis with the concatenated nucleotide sequences of entire PCGs of echinoderms confirmed that Florometra sp. is highly related to F. serratissima within the family Crinoidea.

Characterization and phylogenetic analysis of the complete mitochondrial genome of Stephnometra indica (Pelmatozoa: Crinoidea).

Project description:The crinoid Stephnometra indica inhabits coral reefs and surrounding waters in the western Pacific Ocean. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of S. indica (15,878 bp) was confirmed to contain 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, and 2 rRNA genes. The gene order of S. indica was identical to that of previously published Crinoidea. The nucleotide composition of the S. indica mitogenome was biased toward A + T nucleotide 73.68%. There were four unassigned regions (UASs) found in S. indica and all four UAS regions were AT-biased. The phylogenetic relationship illustrated that S. indica is more closely related to Antedon mediterranea within the family Crinoidea.

The complete mitochondrial genome of an Antarctic moss, Andreaea regularis Mull. Hal. 1890 (Andreaeaceae).

Project description:In the present study, we determined the complete mitochondrial genome of Andreaea regularis Müll. Hal. 1890, a lantern moss of the genus Andreaea Hedw. (Andreaeaceae). The A. regularis mitochondrial genome, with a total length of 118,833 bp, consists of 40 protein-coding genes, 3 ribosomal RNA genes, and 24 transfer RNA genes. A phylogenetic tree constructed with 19 complete mitochondrial genomes composed of liverworts, hornworts, and 15 mosses showed that Andreaeales formed the closest sister to Sphagnales before divergence of the remaining moss groups, indicating A. regularis being one of the earliest mosses. Our findings could be beneficial to investigate the bryophyte evolution.

The mitogenome of A. ardeae is 14,069 bp in length and contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), 2 ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), and a control region (CR). The phylogenetic tree shows that A. ardeae belong to the supercohort Desmonomatides within the order Sarcoptiformes.

The mitogenome is 16,230 base pairs (bp) in length, with 13 protein coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNAs and 2 rRNAs. Gene order of its PCGs and rRNAs matches those of nine other asteroid taxa included for comparison in this study, and it has a similar nucleotide composition of 33.08% A, 26.38% T, 25.53% C and 15.01% G nucleotides. Phylogenetic analyses place A. typicus as the sister group to Acanthaster spp., consistent with previous inferences.
