Cryopyrin-associated periodic syndrome (CAPS) is an autoinflammatory syndrome caused by mutations of NLRP3 gene encoding cryopyrin. Familial cold autoinflammatory syndrome, the mildest form of CAPS, is characterized by cold-induced inflammation induced by the overproduction of IL-1β.
