Complete Genome Sequences of Four Bacteria Isolated from the Gut of a Spiny Ant (Polyrhachis lamellidens).

ABSTRACT: We isolated and sequenced the complete genomes of four bacteria from the gut contents of a spiny ant (Polyrhachis lamellidens) sampled from a primeval beech forest in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. The isolates belong to the genera Tsukamurella, Enterococcus, Lysinibacillus, and Streptomyces and provide insights into the functional roles of microbiomes of ants.

Pacific BioSciences single-molecule real-time (SMRT) sequencing technology was used as the sole method of sequence determination and assembly. The chromosomes exhibited a G+C content of 44.1 to 44.2% and a molecular size range of 4.29 to 4.67 Mbp.

They possess double-stranded DNA genomes of 41,697 bp, 41,335 bp, 40,605 bp, and 147,443 bp, respectively.

Project description:We isolated four Parageobacillus strains from soil in Japan and completely sequenced their genomes. Three of four strains showed ≥98.9% average nucleotide identity (ANI) to Parageobacillus caldoxylosilyticus S1812T, while one strain, designated KH3-4, showed the highest ANI (91%) to Parageobacillus thermantarcticus M1T, suggesting the species novelty of KH3-4.
