Changes in Ca2<sup>+</sup> influx during proinflammatory stimulation modulates cellular responses, including the subsequent activation of inflammation. Whereas the involvement of Ca<sup>2+</sup> has been widely acknowledged, little is known about the role of Na<sup>+</sup>.
