Dengue viruses (DENVs), serotypes 1-4, are arthropod-borne viruses transmitted to humans by mosquitoes, primarily Aedes aegypti. The transmission cycle begins when <i>Ae. aegypti</i> ingest blood from a viremic human and the virus infects midgut epithelial cells.
