The diaphragm is the primary respiratory muscle, and its dysfunction predisposes patients to respiratory failure. Diaphragm function can be assessed by ultrasound measurement - Diaphragmatic Thickening Fraction (DTF). Respiratory viral infections (including SARS-CoV-2) can cause diaphragm dysfunction.
