L-Sorbose induces hyperbranching of hyphae, which results in colonial growth in <i>Neurospora crassa.</i> The <i>sor-4</i> gene, which encodes a glucose sensor that acts in carbon catabolite repression (CCR), has been identified as a sorbose resistance gene.
