Draft Genome Sequences of Four Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Strains (M080_2017, M106_2017, M181_2017, and M191_2017), Isolated from a Malaysian Teaching Hospital.

ABSTRACT: Draft genome sequences were obtained for four methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains isolated from various wards of the Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2017. Using different bioinformatics tools, we annotated the draft genomes and identified multiple antimicrobial resistance genes.

Project description:Here, we report the draft genome sequences of eight community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains that were resistant to cefoxitin, ampicillin, and erythromycin. Three isolates, i.e., CAR1, CAR2, and CAR8, were sequence type 8 (ST8) with staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) type IVa and were Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) positive, which has been known as a predominant clone in the United States.

Three of the strains belong to sequence type 239 (ST239), which has been associated with sustained hospital epidemics worldwide.

Strain ATCC 14458 was assembled into 39 contigs, including 3 plasmids, and strain ATCC 27217 was assembled into 25 contigs, including 2 plasmids.
