ABSTRACT: Actinomycetes isolated from the marine environment often require the presence of seawater for their growth and/or morphological development. Here, we report the isolation and genome sequencing of marine sponge-derived Streptomyces sp. strain G-5 with such a seawater requirement.

Project description:The draft genome of Bacillus sp. SPB7, which was isolated from the marine sponge Spongia officinalis, is presented. This bacterium is a producer of an antimicrobial cyclic diketopiperazine, (3S,6S)-3,6-diisobutylpiperazine-2,5-dione. The genome consists of 4,511 protein-coding genes, 63 tRNAs, 2 16S rRNAs, 3 23S rRNAs, and a single copy of 5S rRNA.

Project description:We report the draft genome sequence of Nocardia seriolae strain N-2927 (NBRC 110360), isolated from cultured yellowtail Seriola quinqueradiata. RAST annotation of the genome revealed 117 genes involved in the virulence, disease, and defense subsystem. Eleven of these genes were predicted as antibiotic resistance genes.

The results will aid marine natural product chemistry and sponge-microbe association studies.

Project description:Streptomyces, a branch of aerobic Gram-positive bacteria, represents the largest genus of actinobacteria. The streptomycetes are characterized by a complex secondary metabolism and produce over two-thirds of the clinically used natural antibiotics today. Here we report the draft genome sequence of a Streptomyces strain, PP-C42, isolated from the marine environment. A subset of unique genes and gene clusters for diverse secondary metabolites as well as antimicrobial peptides could be identified from the genome, showing great promise as a source for novel bioactive compounds.
