The exocyst is an evolutionarily conserved octameric protein complex that mediates the tethering of post-Golgi secretory vesicles to the plasma membrane during exocytosis and is implicated in many cellular processes such as cell polarization, cytokinesis, ciliogenesis and tumor invasion.
