ABSTRACT: Database Description: Human Papillomavirus Vaccination in Brazil (2013-2023) This database contains information on human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in Brazil, distributed by year, age group, sex, and population cohorts from 2013 to 2023. The HPV vaccine is part of the national immunization schedule and is primarily aimed at preventing types of cancer associated with HPV, such as cervical cancer. The database is useful for analyzing vaccination coverage, trends over time, and assessing disparities in vaccination among different demographic groups. Additionally, the database includes information on population cohorts, which are used for calculating vaccination coverage. These cohorts represent the target population, divided by age group and sex, for each year of interest, allowing for precise analysis of the proportion of the population that has been immunized. Usage: The data can be used to: Analyze the evolution of vaccination coverage over time. Evaluate differences in vaccination across age groups and between sexes. Identify potential gaps in vaccination coverage and areas for intervention. Data Source: The data comes from official records of the National Immunization Program (PNI), maintained by the Brazilian Ministry of Health, as well as demographic data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), based on annual reports and public health information systems.

Project description:BackgroundInitially, three-dose schedules were recommended for vaccines against human papillomavirus (HPV); subsequently recommendations have been updated to a schedule of two doses delivered at least six (minimum five) months apart for those aged <15 years at dose 1. We aimed to re-estimate effective HPV vaccination coverage in Australia, considering reduced-dose schedules and possible one-dose effectiveness. We also aimed to identify which of the three school visits was most commonly missed amongst two-dose only recipients, to inform optimal timing of visits.MethodsNational vaccination register data were used to estimate: i) vaccination coverage at December 2017, either with a complete course (three or two sufficiently-spaced doses (>151 days apart)), or at least one dose; ii) for each birth cohort offered vaccination, the percentage of the initially targeted cohort with a complete course, or at least one dose (reflecting uptake at the time the vaccine was offered); and iii) among two-dose only recipients, the percentage who missed each of three school visits.ResultsIncluding those with two sufficiently-spaced doses increased end-2017 coverage by 1.3-2.8% points in those vaccinated at school. Including those with at least one dose increased coverage further, by 6.5-9.5% points, mostly due to including those receiving multiple too-closely-spaced doses. One-dose coverage reached 90.9% and 86.9% in females and males respectively born in 2002. Among those vaccinated at school who received only two doses, it was much more common to miss the first (31.0% females; 32.5% males) or the third visit in the school year (54.6% females; 48.6% males) than the second (14.1% females; 18.8% males).ConclusionsIncluding those with two sufficiently-spaced doses has a very modest impact on HPV vaccine coverage in Australia. If receiving at least one dose offers substantial protection, these data suggest that the school-based program is now achieving close to 90% coverage on this measure.

Project description:BackgroundPrevine Brasil is a new way of financing Primary Health Care (PHC) in Brazil that places users of public health services at the center of the system's analysis and attention through the use of seven performance indicators. This study aims to analyze the performance of Primary Health Care in Brazil under the new financing model (Previne Brasil) in the period from the first four months of 2022 to the first four months of 2023.MethodsThis is a territorial ecological study using secondary data from the Primary Care Health Information System (SISAB). Seven performance indicators were included and analyzed according to Brazil, its regions, states and capitals. A comparative descriptive analysis was carried out between the spatial units.ResultsOf the seven indicators analyzed, only one (Proportion of pregnant women tested for syphilis and HIV) reached the proposed target considering the average of the four-month periods evaluated (target: 60%; Observed: 62.5%). The Northeast was the region with the best performance, surpassing the target in three of the seven indicators (prenatal consultations, tests for syphilis and HIV in pregnant women and dental care for pregnant women). The states and capitals showed progressive improvement in the performance indicators over the four quarters analyzed, although unevenly between the indicators. The indicators related to hypertension and diabetes were the worst. The Final Synthetic Indicator (FSI) showed an increase in the median over the four quarters (4.78; 5.65; 6.02 6.29), which represents an increase of 1.51 in the indicator between the first four months of 2022 and the first four months of 2023.ConclusionAlthough there have been improvements in the performance of Primary Health Care in Brazil, the achievement of the agreed targets for the indicators seems a long way off. The socio-spatial inequalities in the indicators reflect the country's health complexity and reinforce the need for policies that take into account the local-regional context.
