ABSTRACT: The (1)H n.m.r. study of the DNA-dependent RNA polymerase from Escherichia coli has revealed that the holoenzyme (betabeta'alpha(2)sigma) displays two mobile regions: one, observable also in the core enzyme (betabeta'alpha(2)), is characterized by basic amino acids and its appearance and form depend on ionic strength; the other, specific to the holoenzyme, is characterized by threonine residues and its appearance does not depend on ionic strength.
