The N-terminal sequences of malate dehydrogenases from 10 bacterial strains, representing seven genera of Proteobacteria, were determined. Of these, the enzyme sequences of species classified in the genus Brevundimonas clearly resembled those malate dehydrogenases with greatest similarity to lactate dehydrogenases.
