Hemangiopericytoma of the greater omentum.

ABSTRACT: A 41-year-old Chinese woman was admitted to our hospital with epigastric pain. Computed tomography detected a heterogeneous enhancement tumor fed by the left gastroepiploic artery in the left lower quadrant and cholelithiasis. Excision of the tumor in the greater omentum and cholecystectomy were performed laparoscopically. Histological findings confirmed a diagnosis of hemangiopericytoma with low-grade malignancy. To our knowledge, hemangiopericytoma of the greater omentum is very rare, and only 12 cases were reported in English literature. We report a case of hemangiopericytoma arising in the greater omentum and review the literature.

H. pylori G27 HP0518 mutant showed greater motility

Project description:Helicobacter pylori is a human gastric pathogen associated with gastric and duodenal ulcers as well as specific gastric cancers. It is well-evidenced that motility is essential for this pathogen to colonize human gastric tissues. We found that the H. pylori G27 HP0518 mutant showed greater motility than the parental strain, leading to increased cell adhesion and subsequent CagA translocation and NF-κB activation in AGS cells. This mutant expressed a higher molecular mass flagellin A (FlaA) than the parental wild-type strain and the complemented HP0518 mutant, which correlated with differences in motility. Deglycosylation assays indicated that the increased molecular mass of the FlaA protein expressed by the mutant was due to O-linked glycoside modifications. Electron micrographs demonstrated that expression of bundle-formed flagellin filaments in the HP0518 mutant was enhanced in comparison to the wild-type strain. Different degrees of FlaA glycosylation between H. pylori strains suggested that glycosylation could affect both virulence and persistence in vivo. In conclusion, HP0518 inactivation resulted in FlaA hyper-glycosylation leading to increased virulence and motility.

Low responders to endurance training exhibit greater atrophy

Project description:Divergent skeletal muscle phenotypes result from chronic resistance-type versus endurance-type contraction, reflecting the principle of training specificity. However, it is unclear whether there is a common set of genetic factors that influence skeletal muscle adaptation to disuse. Female rats were obtained from out-bred lines selectively bred from high responders to endurance training (HRT) or low responders to endurance training (LRT; n=6/group; generation 19). Both groups underwent 3 d of hindlimb immobilization to induce atrophy of the plantaris and soleus muscles prior to comparison to non-immobilization controls of the same genotype. RNA sequencing was performed to identify Gene Ontology Biological Processes with differential (LRT vs HRT) gene set enrichment. Running distance, determined well in advance of hindlimb immobilization, increased in response to aerobic training in HRT but not LRT. The atrophy response to hindlimb immobilization was exaggerated in LRT versus HRT. There were between-group differences for 140 processes in plantaris muscle and 118 processes in soleus muscle. In conclusion, low responders to aerobic endurance training exhibited exaggerated atrophy, and this was associated with differential gene expression. Thus, our findings suggest that genetic factors that underpin aerobic training maladaptation may also dysregulate the transcriptional activity of biological processes that contribute to adaptation to hindlimb immobilization.
