ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Mn(C(2)H(3)O(2))(2)(C(18)H(20)N(4))]·6H(2)O, consists of a neutral Mn(II) complex with six solvent water mol-ecules. In the complex, the Mn(2+) ion is eight-coordinated in a distorted square-anti-prismatic environment by four N atoms from the tetra-dentate ligand N,N'-bis-(2-pyridylmethyl-idene)cyclo-hexane-1,2-diamine (bpic) and four O atoms from two acetate ligands. The compound displays inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen-bond inter-actions to form various kinds of ring structures and cyclic water clusters.

Project description:The ligand N-(2-hydr-oxy-3-methoxy-benzyl-idene)glycylglycine (H(3)L), a Schiff base derived from glycylglycine and 3-methoxy-salicylaldehyde, was used in the synthesis of a new organic-inorganic coordination complex, [Mn(H(2)O)(6)][Cu(C(12)H(11)N(2)O(5))](2)·6H(2)O. The Mn(II) atom is located on an inversion center and is coordinated to six water mol-ecules in a slightly distorted octa-hedral geometry. The Cu(II) atom is chelated by the tetra-dentate Schiff base ligand in a distorted CuN(2)O(2) square-planar coordination. In the crystal structure, the complex [Mn(H(2)O)(6)](2+) cations and the [CuL](-) anions are arranged in columns parallel to the a axis and are held together by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding. Additional hydrogen bonds of the same type further link the columns into a three-dimensional network.

Project description:In the title compound, [Mn(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]SO(4)·6H(2)O, the complex cations assemble into positively charged sheets parallel to (010) via inter-molecular π-π stacking inter-actions with a mean interplanar distance of 3.410 (6) along [100] and 3.465 (5) Å along [001]. The sulfate anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules are inter-connected between these layers by hydrogen bonds, forming negatively charged layers which are linked to the positive layers through O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional architecture. Both the positive and negative sheets are stacked along [010] in an ⋯ABAB⋯ sequence, the A layers being shifted by 1/2a along [100] with respect to the B layers. One of the uncoordinated water molecules is equally disordered over two positions.
