Catena-Poly[[(1,10-phenanthroline)cadmium(II)]-?-2-(1,3-benzimidazol-2-ylsulfan-yl)acetato-?N,O:N].

ABSTRACT: In title compound, [Cd(C(9)H(6)N(2)O(2)S)(C(12)H(8)N(2))](n), the Cd(II) atom is in a distorted tetra-gonal-pyramidal environment, coordinated by one chelating 1,10-phenanthroline ligand, one chelating 2-(1,3-benzimidazol-2-ylsulfan-yl)acetate (bia) ligand bound through one N atom and one O atom of the carboxyl group, and one N atom from a second bia ligand. Each bia ligand acts as bridge between Cd(II) ions, forming one-dimensional coordination polymers along [010], with a shortest Cd?Cd distance of 4.27?(2)?Å.

Project description:In the title complex, [Cd(C(2)O(4))(C(12)H(8)N(2))](n), the Cd(II) atom has a distorted octa-hedral coordination, defined by four O atoms from two symmetry-related oxalate ligands and by two N atoms from a bidentate 1,10-phenanthroline ligand. Each oxalate ligand bridges two Cd(II) atoms, generating a zigzag chain structure propagating along [100]. The packing of the structure is consolidated by non-classical C-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions.

Project description:The title compound, [Cd(C(8)H(4)O(4))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)](n), is a new coordination polymer of benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate with cadmium(II) and 1,10-phenanthroline. The Cd(II) ion is coordinated by two N atoms from the 1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecule, three O atoms from two crystallographically independent benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate ligands and the O atom of a coordinated water mol-ecule, forming a heavily distorted octa-hedron. The 1,10-phenanthroline ligand is approximately planar within 0.073 (4) Å. The two different benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate ligands each coordinate to two Cd(II) ions in bidentate and monodentate modes, forming an infinite zigzag chain. Adjacent chains are packed tightly by strong π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.851 (2) and 3.859 (2) Å] between the aromatic rings of the benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate ligand and the 1,10-phenanthroline of a neighboring chain, forming a sheet parallel to (011). Different sheets are linked together via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the coordinated water mol-ecules and the O atoms of the carboxyl-ate groups, forming a three-dimensional network.

A symmetry-generated cpp ligand completes the CoN(2)O(3) trigonal-bipyramidal geometry for the metal ion, with the N atoms occupying both equatorial and axial sites. Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title Cd(II) compound, [Cd(N(3))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))](n), contains a Cd(II) atom, located on a twofold axis passing through the middle of the phenanthroline mol-ecule, one azide ion and half of a 1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecule. The Cd(II) atom exhibits a distorted octa-hedral coordin-ation including one chelating 1,10-phenanthroline ligand and four azide ligands. The crystal structure features chains along the c direction in which azide groups doubly bridge two adjacent Cd(II) atoms in an end-on (EO) mode. Inter-chain ?-? stacking inter-actions, with centroid-centroid separations of 3.408?(2)?Å between the central aromatic rings of 1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecules, lead to a supra-molecular sheet parallel to the bc plane.

The Cd(II) ion lies on a twofold rotation axis. Inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds connect adjacent chains, forming a layer structure. An intramolecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond is also present.
