Project description:In the title compound, [Ni(C(6)H(6)N(4))(2)(H(2)O)(2)](C(8)H(7)O(2))(2)·2C(8)H(8)O(2), the Ni(II) atom (site symmetry ) is coordinated by two N,N'-bidentate 2,2'-biimidazole ligands and two water mol-ecules, resulting in a slightly distorted trans-NiO(2)N(4) geometry for the metal ion. In the crystal, the components are linked by N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, generating an infinite two-dimensional network running parallel to (100). The methyl group of the benzoic acid mol-ecule is disordered over two sites in a 0.563 (17):0.437 (17) ratio.

Within the complex, the carb-oxy-lic acid forms intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds, while the mol-ecules are assembled through N-H?O(carbox-yl) hydrogen bonds into chains extending along the a-axis direction. These chains are further linked by weak ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid separation = 3.930?(2)?Å].

The dihedral angle between the two imidazole rings is 16.1?(2)°. The O atoms of the nitrate anion are disordered over two positions; the site occupancy factors are 0.8 and 0.2. The ions are -connected by C-H?O inter-actions, while two weak intra-molecular C-H?O inter-actions producing an S(6) ring motif are observed. The nitrate anion is linked to the hydroxyl groups of two neighbouring cations by O-H?O hydrogen bonds. The ions are packed into infinite chains along the [100] direction.
