ABSTRACT: In the monoclinic polymorph of the title compound, C(13)H(23)NO(5)S, inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds link mol-ecules into one-dimensional chains along [100]. The atoms of the terminal propenyl group are disordered over two sets of sites with refined occupancies of 0.69?(2) and 0.31?(2).

In the crystal structure, inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds link mol-ecules into two independent one-dimensional chains along [100]. The crystal studied was found to be a non-merohedral twin with a ratio of 0.615?(6):0.385?(1) for the refined components. At 200?(1)?K [Singh et al. (2009 ?). Acta Cryst. E65, o1385-o1386] the crystal structure of the title compound contains one disordered mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit of a monoclinic unit cell.

The mol-ecule adopts an E conformation and the C-C=C-C torsion angle is 178.77?(13)°. The overall conformation may be described by the values of dihedral angles between the different planes. The terminal rings are twisted by an angle of 54.75?(8)°, while the biphenyl part is not planar, the dihedral angle between the planes of the rings being 40.65?(8)°. The dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 14.10?(7)°. There are three weak C-H?? inter-actions found in the crystal structure. No classic hydrogen bonds are observed.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, C(16)H(13)ClO(2) (II), (space group P2(1)/c,) is a polymorph of the structure, (I), reported by Harrison, Yathirajan, Sarojini, Narayana & Indira [Acta Cryst. (2006), E62, o1647-o1649] in the ortho-rhom-bic space group Pna2(1). The dihedral angle between the mean planes of the 4-chloro- and 4-meth-oxy-substituted benzene rings is 52.9?(1)° in (II) compared to 21.82?(6)° for polymorph (I). The dihedral angles between the mean planes of the prop-2-en-1-one group and those of the 4-chloro-phenyl and 4-methoxy-phenyl rings are 23.3?(3) and 33.7?(1)°, respectively. in (II). The corresponding values are 17.7?(1) and 6.0?(3)°, respectively, in polymorph (I). In the crystal, weak C-H?? inter-actions are observed.

Project description:The unit-cell dimensions and space group of the second monoclinic polymorph of the title compound, C15H11FO, differ from those of the previously reported form [Jing (2009 ?). Acta Cryst. E65, o2515]. The title compound shows an E conformation of the C=C bond with the 4-fluoro-phenyl group opposite to the benzoyl group. The torsion angle of between the planes of the 4-fluoro-phenyl and benzoyl groups is 10.53?(6)°. In the crystal, weak C-H?O and C-H?F inter-actions form a cross-linked packing motif, building sheets parallel to (-102).

Project description:In the title compound, C21H15NO3, the mol-ecule has an E conformation about the C=C bond, and the C-C=C-C torsion angle is -178.24 (18)°. In the mol-ecule, the planes of the terminal rings are twisted by an angle of 42.19 (10)°, while the biphenyl part is not planar, with a dihedral angle between the rings of 39.2 (1)°. The dihedral angle between the nitro-phenyl ring and the inner benzene ring is 5.56 (9)°. The 3-nitro group is approximately coplanar with the benzene ring to which it is attached [O-N-C-C = 0.1 (3)°]. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked via C-H⋯π inter-actions, involving the terminal benzene rings, forming corrugated layers parallel to (100).
