Bis[N-(2-pyridylcarbon-yl)pyridine-2-carboximidato]iron(III) perchlorate methanol solvate.

ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [Fe(C(12)H(8)N(3)O(2))(2)]ClO(4)·CH(3)OH, the iron(III) ion is surrounded by two tridentate N-(2-pyridyl-carbon-yl)pyridine-2-carboximidate (bpca) ligands and exhib-its a distorted octa-hedral coordination by six bpca N atoms. A classical O-H?O hydrogen bond exists between the methanol solvent mol-ecule and the perchlorate anion. Magnetic susceptibility measurements indicated the complex to be in the low-spin state in the temperature range 5-400?K.

Project description:The structure of the title salt complex, [Fe(C(12)H(8)N(3)O(2))(2)]ClO(4)·H(2)O, contains one Fe(III) cation, two N-(pyridin-2-ylcarbon-yl)pyridine-2-carboxamidate (bpca(-)) anions, one perchlorate anion and one water mol-ecule. The Fe(III) cation has an approximate octa-hedral geometry, defined by six N atoms from two bpca(-) anions. The nearly parallel [dihedral angle = 1.50?(1)°] bpca(-) anions form two-dimensional supermolecules along the a axis by the way of weak ?-? stacking inteactirons [centroid-centroid distances = 3.948?(2), 4.000?(2), 3.948?(2), 3.911?(2), 3.897?(2), 3.984?(2) and 3.929?(2)?Å]. Intra- and inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonding occurs. The water mol-ecule [occupancies 0.520?(5) and 0.480?(5)], two carbonyl O atoms [occupancies 0.622?(7) and 0.378?(7)] and the four perchlorate O atoms [occupancies 0.887?(4) and 0.113?(4)] are each disordered over two positions.

Project description:The title compound, [Mn(C16H17N2O3)2(C2H6OS)2]ClO4·0.774CH3OH, comprises a central octa-hedrally coordinated MnIII cation, with two bidentate Schiff base ligands occupying the equatorial positions and two dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) ligands occupying the axial positions. There are two independant cations in the asymmetric unit, with the MnIII atoms of both cations being positioned on crystallographic centers of inversion. The perchlorate anion is disordered over two equivalent conformations, with occupancies of 0.744?(3) and 0.226?(3). In addition, there is a methanol solvent mol-ecule in the crystal lattice that is too close to the minor component of the perchlorate anion to be present simultaneously and thus it was refined to have the same occupancy as the major component of this anion. There is a Jahn-Teller distortion which results in Mn-ODMSO axial bond lengths of 2.2365?(12) and 2.2368?(12)?Å in the two cations. In the crystal, inter-molecular ?-? stacking between the non-coordinating pyridine rings of each cation is observed. This ?-? stacking, along with extensive O-H?O hydrogen bonding and C-H?O inter-actions, link the components into a complex three-dimensional array.
