Diethyl 4-(4,5-dihydro-furan-2-yl)-3,5-di-methyl-1-phenyl-1,4-dihydro-pyrazine-2,6-dicarboxyl-ate.

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(22)H(26)N(2)O(5), the central 1,4-dihydro-pyrazine ring adopts a boat conformation, while the benzene ring and the two disordered components of the furan ring are inclined at angles of 77.9?(5) and 61.9?(7)°. Three of the C atoms of the furan ring are disordered over two positions with occupancies of 0.655?(18) and 0.345?(18). In the crystal structure, weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into chains propagating in [010].

Project description:The title mol-ecule, C(19)H(23)NO(4), was synthesized by the reaction of benzaldehyde, ethyl acetoacetate and NH(4)HCO(3). The dihydro-pyridine ring adopts a flattened boat conformation and the plane of the base of the boat forms a dihedral angle of 88.78 (9)° with the phenyl ring. The packing is stabilized by strong inter-molecular N-H⋯O and weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Within the mol-ecule, the 1,4-dihydro-pyridine ring exhibits a distinctive planar conformation [r.m.s. deviation from the mean plane of 0.009?(3)Å], and the other non-H atoms are almost coplanar [r.m.s. deviation = 0.021?(3)?Å] with the 1,4-dihydro-pyridine ring. The conformation of the latter is governed mainly by two intra-molecular C-H?O non-classical inter-actions.
