2-Methyl-anilinium dihydrogen phosphate-phospho-ric acid (1/1).

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(7)H(10)N(+)·H(2)PO(4) (-)·H(3)PO(4), there is a clear distinction between the P-O/P=O and P-OH bond lengths. In the crystal, the H(2)PO(4) (-) anions and H(3)PO(4) mol-ecules are linked by O-H?O hydrogen bonds, leading to layers propagating in the bc plane. The organic cations are located between these layers and inter-act with them by way of N-H?O hydrogen bonds.

The dihedral angle between the mean planes of the separate protonated and unprotonated pyridine rings is 9.93?(8)°. In the crystal, N-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen bonds and weak C-H?O and C-H?N inter-molecular inter-actions connect the organic mol-ecules into a two-dimensional network parallel to the ac plane. O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions involving the H(2)PO(4) (-) anions and H(3)PO(4) mol-ecules provide additional support from the inorganic groups Weak ?-? stacking inter-actions between the pyridine rings of neighbouring organic mol-ecules [centroid-centroid distances = 3.711?(4) and 3.784?(2)?Å] further link the layers into a three-dimensional network.

Reinvestigation of 4-methyl-anilinium dihydrogen phosphite.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, C(7)H(10)N(+)·H(2)PO(3) (-), has been reported previously by Sabounchei & Naghipour [Asian J. Chem. (2003) ?, 15, 1677-1686]. A new look at this compound has revealed doubling of the unit cell. The asymmetric unit consists of two 4-methyl-anilinium cations and two dihydrogen phosphite anions. The crystal structure is built upon alternating layers of organic cations and dihydrogen phosphite anions stacked along c. The organic layer is stabilized by C-H?? interactions. Weak aromatic ?-? stacking interactions with centroid-centroid distances of 4.6147?(12), 4.6917?(12), 4.6932?(13) and 4.8366?(13)?Å are also observed in the structure. The dihydrogen phosphite anions are linked by O-H?O hydrogen bonds into chains running parallel to the a-axis direction. These chains are connected to the cation layer by N-H?O hydrogen bonds.

The asymmetric unit comprises the 2-(methoxy-carbon-yl)anilinium cation and the dihydrogen phosphate anion. In the cation, the dihedral angle between the benzene ring plane and that through the methyl ester substituent is 22.94?(9)°. In the crystal, adjacent cations and anions form dimers through N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds, respectively. Additional N-H?O and C-H?O contacts result in a network of cation and anion dimers stacked down the b axis.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, C(4)H(12)N(+)·H(2)PO(4) (-)·0.5H(2)O, the anions form an infinite hydrogen-bonded chain along the [10] direction. The anion chains are connected by water mol-ecules, which lie on crystallographic twofold rotation axes, through O-H?O hydrogen bonds. These hydrogen bonds are almost perpendicular to the other hydrogen bonds which create an assembled structure of anions. In addition, C-H?O hydrogen bonds between anions and cations are observed.
