Bis{?-1-[(2-oxidophen-yl)imino-meth-yl]-2-naphtholato}bis-[pyridine-copper(II)].

ABSTRACT: The dinuclear title complex, [Cu(2)(C(17)H(11)NO(2))(2)(C(5)H(5)N)(2)], consists of centrosymmetric dimers in which the Cu(II) atom displays an elongated square-pyramidal coordination geometry. The conformation of the dimer is stabilized by inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds and by ?-? aromatic stacking inter-actions involving the pyridine and benzene rings with centroid-centroid separations of 3.624?(3)?Å.

Project description:The title compound, [Cu2(C9H10NO2)4], is built of discrete centrosymmetric dimers. The Cu(II) atoms are each five coordinated by two deprotonated Schiff base ligands that are bonded differently to the metal atoms. Of the two phenolate O atoms, one is coordinated to one Cu(II) atom, whereas another bridges the two metal atoms. The basal plane of the square pyramid around Cu(II) atoms is formed by the imino N and phenolate O atoms of the bidentate and the monodentate/bidentate Schiff base ligands. The bridging phenolate oxygen occupies the apical position of the coordination sphere with a considerably longer Cu-O bond length. In the crystal, the dimeric mol-ecules pack relative to each other in such a way that the Cu2O2 planes of adjacent dimers are orthogonal.

One of the bridging Cu-Cl bonds is significantly longer than the other.

Project description:In the title compound, [Na(H(2)O)(2)]ClO(4)·[Cu(2)(C(9)H(7)NO(3))(2)(C(6)H(7)N)(2)], the Cu(II) atom is coordinated by one N atom and two O atoms from a tridentate N-salicylideneglycinate Schiff base dianion and one N atom from a 3-methyl-pyridine ligand. Longer Cu⋯O contacts [2.680 (2) Å] complete an approximate square-based pyramidal coordination geometry around Cu(II), forming a dimeric complex across a centre of inversion. The dimeric complexes form stacks along the a axis, with Cu⋯O contacts of 3.332 (2) Å between them. The Na(+) cations and perchlorate anions lie on twofold rotation axes between the stacks. The former are coordinated by two disordered water mol-ecules (each with half-occupancy), and form Na⋯O contacts of 3.698 (3) Å to the perchlorate anions and Na⋯π contacts to neighbouring salicylideneglycinate ligands [shortest Na⋯C = 3.516 (3) Å].

Project description:The Cu(II) atom in the title complex, [CuCl(2)(C(12)H(9)IN(2))], has a square-planar coordination being N,N'-chelated by the Schiff base ligand, and by two Cl atoms. The geometry is distorted towards square pyramidal owing to a long Cu⋯Cl inter-action of 2.941 (1) Å. This results in the formation of a zigzag chain structure propagating in the c-axis direction.
